‘Law & Order: Organized’ Crime Boss Reveals Conversation on Stabler’s and Bensons’ Future

by Anna Dunn

Law & Order: Organized Crime showrunner Ilene Chaiken just talked about Benson and Stabler’s future. In a new interview about what’s next for the season, Chaiken made it known that Stabler and Benson are about to reunite.

Apparently, just the other day, Ilene Chaiken, Law & Order: SVU showrunner Warren Leight, Mariska Hargitay, and Elliot Stabler actor Chris Meloni all got together for dinner to discuss the future of Benson and Stabler. Here’s how Chaiken responded when asked about that talk.

“I was shocked and delighted that Warren invited the world into our conversation. I mean, we had a conversation amongst ourselves that I won’t share with you, because I think it’s very personal. It was just, you know, ‘What do you imagine? What do you feel? What do you want?’ And it wasn’t just us asking Mariska and Chris. It was all of us talking and imagining these two people and just trying to dig deep and be real about it. And I love hearing from the fans and I’m not going to pretend that I didn’t have a little look to see how they responded to Warren,” she told Yahoo!

The Two Shows Frequently Cross Over

The two shows, which air back to back on Thursdays, frequently cross over. This brought Elliot Stabler back to Law & Order: SVU after over a decade of him being gone. Essentially since the show began in the 90s, fans have wanted Benson and Stabler to get together. But when a contract dispute caused Elliot Stabler actor Chris Meloni to leave the show, those hopes were dashed.

Now, however, Law & Order: Organized Crime has brought Elliot Stabler back into the universe and Elliot Stabler and Olivia Benson’s relationship (Bensler) back into the conversation.

Thankfully, it looks like a lot of the people involved are on the same page. Chaiken explained that most people were on the same page but had different ideas of how things should unfold.

“It wasn’t as if we had, you know, extremes of difference. I mean, we all agree in principle, and we all have different thoughts about how it might treated as story. And that’s the fun of it and the fun of following out all of these ideas and seeing which ones feel the most worthy,” she said.

‘Law & Order: Organized Crime’ Will See the Return of a Major Villain

With the Elliot undercover plotline over, Law & Order: Organized Crime isn’t just going to see him and Benson on screen together again. Richard Wheatley is officially returning for episode 9. He has an upcoming trial. But considering he’s going to be around for a bunch of episodes, that trial is only the start of the story.

You can tune in to Law & Order: Organized Crime on Thursday nights at 10/9 Central on NBC.
