‘Law & Order: SVU’ Fans Can’t Get Enough of Nick Amaro’s Return

by Lauren Boisvert

Nick Amaro returned for the 500th Law & Order: SVU episode, but not as an SVU detective; mostly as just a consultant. He now works for a firm called Forum that digs up and solves cold cases, and he went and got his master’s in forensic science and working on his doctorate in biophysics. He’s well-rounded now, more than just a detective. But, as Melinda Warner says in a clip from the episode, “Once an SVU detective, always an SVU detective.”

The official Law & Order Twitter page posted the clip from the landmark episode, and fans can’t get enough of Amaro. His return was so sweet for a lot of fans. Even though the end of the episode left him and Benson on less than good terms, fans still appreciated him.

In the clip, Amaro and Rollins are visiting Warner, who has an old slip dress spread out on her examination table. Amaro is hoping to analyze old DNA samples with their new technology. He wants to clear an incarcerated man’s name in a case from 1996.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Show Love for Amaro’s Return

A lot of fans were hoping that Nick Amaro’s return for the 500th episode would usher in a return of the character for real. That doesn’t seem to be the case; Danny Pino has said that he hasn’t been in talks with the show to bring his character back in even a part-time role. Sorry, Amaro fans.

But, while he was on the show, fans gave him plenty of love on Twitter. “Hope Amaro comes back again,” wrote one fan. Another simply commented that they loved Amaro “so much.” Another fan showed some love for Warner as well, writing, “Good to see Amaro & Warner back!”

Law & Order‘s Twitter page captioned the clip, “You know what they say: once an #SVU detective…” and a lot of commenters went on to finish the line for them.

The 500th episode was a great time for fans to come together and share their favorite moments from over the years. 500 is a huge milestone, and Mariska Hargitay has been there the entire time; that’s such a long time to be carrying a show. Her back must be tired.

Mariska Hargitay Was Too Nervous to Watch Episode 500

You might think that, after 23 years, Mariska Hargitay probably doesn’t get nervous watching herself on screen anymore. But, as she told Live With Kelly and Ryan, she was too nervous to watch the 500th episode.

According to Hargitay, she felt a tremendous amount of pressure. “I think that the idea of the 500th episode was so much pressure or something on me. And I was so nervous coming to work this day,” she said. The episode also dealt with a heavy subject; Benson’s past, and her predatory relationship with a 21-year-old as a 16-year-old girl. That has to be hard to watch, let alone act through. But Hargitay is an old pro at uncomfortable material, as we all know.
