‘Law & Order: SVU’ Fans Wish One District Attorney Would Return

by Lauren Boisvert

“Law & Order: SVU” has been on for so long, and has had many people come and go. But there are some characters that fans love more than others, and wish they would return.

One such character was ADA Casey Novak, played by Diane Neal. She was on “SVU” from season 5 to 9, then returned in seasons 12 and 13. She was the only female ADA to appear in 5 consecutive seasons and the third longest-running ADA of the entire “Law & Order” franchise.

Fans loved Casey Novak for her fierce determination to bring about justice, and her willingness to blur the lines a bit when it came to doing the right thing. One fan on Reddit called her “something special.” Another highlighted a specific scene, writing, “[My] favorite scene with her is when she went to the house of a judge to get a warrant signed and she ‘hit the jackpot’; because many judges were there playing a game of cards.”

At first, Novak butted heads with Benson and Stabler, second-guessing their work, and getting too involved in the cases. But, as time went on, she became the detectives’ trusted ally. They knew she would always do the most for their victims, and get justice any way she could. After her first case involving a child victim, she asked to be taken off sex crimes and put back on white-collar crimes. Her boss refused, and she stayed. She eventually made a name for herself as ADA, working with Benson and Stabler instead of antagonizing them.

ADA Casey Novak was a “Law & Order: SVU” fan favorite, and it’s possible the character could come back eventually. Her story was left open-ended, but she was disbarred, so if she does come back, it won’t be as ADA.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Fans Pick Their Favorite Detectives

The detectives are a crucial element of “Law & Order: SVU,” of course, and fans took to a Reddit poll to cast their votes for their favorites.

With 70 votes, of course, it was Mariska Hargitay’s Olivia Benson in the lead. She’s an eternal favorite; fierce, strong, but willing to be vulnerable. She’s the complete package. Next up was Richard Belzer’s John Munch with 40 votes. Munch was an interesting character on the show; obsessed with conspiracy theories but still an excellent detective, he had a complicated but multifaceted backstory that made him an obvious favorite.

Elliot Stabler came in behind Munch with 31 votes, and Odafin “Fin” Tutuola, played by Ice-T, behind Stabler with 29 votes. An interesting line-up, but not a surprising one. These four have long been fan favorites, especially Benson and Stabler. Munch is a great choice as well, and who doesn’t love Ice-T?
