‘Law & Order: SVU’: Who ‘American Pic’ Star Jason Biggs Played on the Series

by Maria Hartfield

It’s no surprise that NBC’s Law & Order: SVU is currently the longest-running live-action prime-time TV series in US history. The show debuted in 1999 following an elite unit of detectives investigating crimes from sexual assault to child abuse to domestic violence and more.

Over the course of the series impressively long term, Law & Order: SVU starred talented actors including BD Wong, Christopher Meloni, Ice-T, Mariska Hargitay, and Kelli Giddish. Together, the team comes together to dive headfirst into Manhattan’s most haunting and obscure crimes.

In Season 23, an episode titled “Silent Night, Hateful Night” calls on the “SVU” unit to look into a string of related terrorist attacks against local Jewish, Muslim, and Sikh communities. This calls for the aid of Detective Parlato-Goldstein. The episode ends when the team finally finds the hate group and quickly puts a stop to the devastating attacks.

“Silent Night, Hateful Night” is the first episode introducing Detective Parlato-Goldstein. Fans of the series may be wondering where they’ve seen the actor before.

Jason Biggs appears on Law & Order: SVU

Actor Jason Biggs plays the part of Detective Parlato-Goldstein on Law & Order: SVU. Biggs is most famous for his role as James “Jim” Levenstein in the American Pie comedy film series. It’s hard not to think of apple pie when discussing Jason Biggs and his part in the comedy film.

American Pie made history in 1999 as an American sex comedy. The coming of age film became a worldwide phenomenon. Eventually, the movie expanded into an entire franchise consisting of four movies including American Pie, American Pie 2, American Wedding, and American Reunion.

In an interview with Solzy at the Movies, Biggs said, “Look, I’ll say this, I would love to play that character again. That, for me, is the greatest gift—that film, that character, those relationships that I made with the rest of the cast. I would do it again in a heartbeat.”

He starred in Netflix series Orange is the New Black

Another role that earned Biggs several accolades was his part in the Netflix series Orange is the New Black. The series centers around Piper Chapman (Taylor Schilling), who ends up in prison for committing a crime when she was younger. Biggs plays the part of Chapman’s fiancee and future husband, Larry Bloom.

Biggs appears sporadically throughout the first two seasons of Orange in the New Black. In an interview with EW, Biggs said, “Larry has these incredible moments of strength, and he makes these tough decisions. He does say ‘f— you’ to Piper. He does stand up to her. He’s strong when he’s on his own. In terms of being a pushover, I really feel like Larry has a big transition [over the course of Season 1]. And if he’s not as willing or supportive initially, then the payoff isn’t as great, the stakes aren’t as high for when he finally does say ‘This is it’ at the end of Season 1.”

Bigg’s longstanding career and many accolades have earned him an impressive reputation as a talented actor and comedian. Perhaps fans will start to see him appear in more intellectual roles in the future such as his role of Detective Parlato-Goldstein on Law & Order: SVU.
