‘Law & Order: SVU’: How Many Times Has Jack McCoy Actor Sam Waterston Appeared on Show?

by Joe Rutland

With news of Sam Waterston returning to the franchise, Outsiders, how many times has he appeared on Law & Order: SVU as Jack McCoy?

We’ll take a look at that number according to some information from IMDb.

Between 2000-18, Waterston played McCoy in four episodes of the spin-off from Law & Order.

Back in the show’s first season on NBC, Jack McCoy shows up in an episode titled Entitled. The synopsis for this episode follows: “After a salesman is murdered, the detectives turn their attention to Stephanie Mulroney, the youngest daughter of a well-known family with some deep connections.”

There’s more here, though. They join forces with the officers from the 27th precinct of the Law & Order series. Ultimately, they realize that their case is connected with a long-unsolved case. It turns out that Lennie Briscoe once handled it years ago with his former partner, Mike Logan.

Jerry Orbach played Lennie Briscoe, while Chris Noth played Mike Logan.

‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Made Final Appearance On Show In 2018 Episode

For a 2007 episode titled Blinded, here is this episode’s synopsis for the Law & Order: SVU actor: “Stabler suffers temporary blindness after an injury bringing a sexual predator who suffers from schizophrenia into custody.

“Benson’s special interest in the case puts her at odds with ADA Novak,” according to the synopsis. Novak apparently has a personal agenda of her own.

Stabler is, of course, Detective Elliot Stabler, played by Chris Meloni. Benson is Sergeant Olivia Benson, played by Mariska Hargitay. Novak is Assistant District Attorney Casey Novak, played by Diane Neal.

However, in a 2011 episode, Torched, Sam Waterston shows up as Jack. Now listen up, Outsiders. This synopsis is something else for this show.

It reads: “One of Stabler’s former partners joins SVU as an ADA, and helps Benson and Stabler find an arsonist responsible for the deaths of two girls.” Who is that ADA? The character’s name is Jo Marlowe, played by Sharon Stone.

Meanwhile, Jack’s final appearance on Law & Order: SVU, at least for now, came in 2018 in The Undiscovered Country.

Fans Start Debating What Most Devastating Episode Is In Series History

Throughout its history, Law & Order: SVU has had some seriously hardcore episodes. Some, though, are more devastating than others, according to fans on a Reddit thread.

In Charisma, from Season 6, a 12-year-old girl’s pregnancy leads Benson and Stabler to a religious cult called the Church of Wisdom and Sight. The episode, fans say, has similarities to the Jonestown massacre from 1978.

Then, in conclusion, there’s Annihilated, from Season 8.

A woman is murdered in a professional hit after her fiancé received death threats. Investigation into the fiancé reveals that he killed his entire family.
