Mariska Hargitay, the beloved hero from Law & Order: SVU wished her fans so much love as Christmas approaches.

In fact, she did so by snapping a selfie as she held a souvenir from a famous candy store. Sounds perfect and very high caloric. ‘Tis the season.

The star of Law & Order: SVU captioned the photo: “Merry Christmas Eve. Sending love and joy and peace and prayers to all.”

We know that Hargitay and Peter Hermann, her husband, do the holidays in a big way. The two met on the set of Law & Order: SVU. Specifically, it was episode 54 in an SVU hour guest-starring John Ritter. Although Ritter was known for his comedy, he played a very dark character in an episode entitled Monogamy.

Law & Order: SVU introduced Hermann as defense attorney Trevor Langan on the episode that ran Jan. 2, 2002. He played the character for 34 episodes. And made an appearance as Langan in the Law & Order: SVU 500th episode in October.

The family appears to be spending the holidays in Switzerland. That’s where Hargitay tagged herself in a post earlier this week. Again, she posted a selfie and captioned it: “Was dreaming of a #White Christmas (lots of snowflake emojis). Then I got one. … Merry merry to all. Stay safe and God bless.” Hargitay later posted a photo of a fancy gingerbread house. Yes, she still was in Switzerland. Hermann, although born in the United States, spent a chunk of his childhood in Germany, which borders Switzerland.

The Law & Order: SVU cast already had new episodes in the can so that everyone could break for the holidays. The next new episode is set for Jan. 6.

The last new one was Dec. 9 and it was part of a crossover with Law & Order: Organized Crime. In the first hour was People vs Richard Wheatley. The prosecutors put Wheatley (Dylan McDermott) on trial for killing Kathy Stabler, the wife of Elliott Stabler (Christopher Meloni). Kathy Stabler died from the injuries she suffered in a car bombing as NBC introduced new spinoff Law & Order: Organized Crime, April 1.

Wheatley also tried to kill Benson in the season 23 premiere of Law & Order: SVU. Again, he used a car in the attempt. But Benson obviously survived. (Writers probably did so to incorporate and explain Hargitay’s summer leg injury).

The next new Law & Order: SVU episode has a holiday theme, although it comes five days after New Years. It’s called Silent Night, Hateful Night. And here’s the plot summary: “The Special Victims Unit is called in to help investigate a wave of hate crimes on Christmas Eve. Rollins catches up with an old flame.”

Rollins’ old flame is Lt. Declan Murphy. So this is the return of Donal Logue’s character.
