‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Kelli Giddish Reveals Which Castmate Is Funniest on Set

by Anna Dunn

Law & Order: SVU star Kelli Giddish just revealed which castmate is the funniest on set. In an interview with Smashing Interviews Magazine, Giddish, who plays Rollins discussed what its like working on set with co-stars like Mariska Hargitay, Ice-T, and Peter Scanavino.

When asked who is the “loudest and funniest” on set, Giddish revealed it was one of her co-stars by a landslide.

“Oh, Mariska, by far! Oh, God. She’s a ball of energy. No one could understand how funny that lady is with what is actually portrayed on their TV because Benson’s an empathetic, deeply concerned character. That’s who she is in real life, but the other facet to her personality is that she’s laughing all day every day,” Giddish revealed.

If you follow Hargitay on social media, this definitely checks out. Hargitay may play an incredibly serious role on SVU, but behind the scenes, she seems like tons of fun.

Mariska Hargitay Originally wanted a Career in Comedy

It may surprise fans to learn that Hargitay started her career seeking out comedic roles. A role on Law & Order: SVU is about as far from comedy as you can get. However, it’s hard to imagine anyone other than Hargitay playing Benson. During her time studying theatre, she was even in a comedy troupe at UCLA called the Groundlings.

Once she graduated college, it took Hargitay a while to establish herself in the entertainment industry. She made appearances on shows like Baywatch and Seinfeld, but couldn’t find many consistent roles. Hargitay was leaning towards comedy so much that when she expressed interest in the part on Law & Order: SVU, her manager had some doubts.

“I was like ‘This is it!’” Hargitay told Parade Magazine in 2019. “My manager was worried because it was very dark and not up my alley, because I liked comedy. And I was like, ‘This is right up my alley.’ Never in my life had something been more known to me.”

She may not be bringing much comedy to TV. However, she’s certainly providing plenty of laughs behind the camera and on social media. The actress recently suffered a pretty severe leg injury. However, she kept her head held high and made plenty of jokes while she was recovering.

That leg injury has now been written into the script to give Hargitay apt time to recover. In the opening episode, Benson is run off the road and injures her foot. It results in a brief hospital visit, but she quickly gets back to work.

If you want to catch Hargitay, Giddish, and the rest of the cast on the newest season of Law & Order: SVU, it airs on Thursday nights at 9/8 central with Law & Order: Organized Crime airing right after.
