‘Law & Order: SVU’ Star Peter Scanavino Reveals If He’ll Show Up in Original’s Revival

by Michael Freeman

Law & Order: SVU star Peter Scanavino has played Sonny Carisi for some time on the show. Considering his character will appear in the Organized Crime crossover, fans wonder if he’ll appear in the original show’s revival, which he responded to recently.

During a phone interview with TVLine, Peter Scanavino fielded numerous questions about his character and what’s to come. After the actor mentioned Carisi has been working with homicide and spreading his wings a bit, the outlet mentioned the Law & Order revival. Since he’s dabbling in homicide and crossovers are becoming more common, it seems possible he’ll appear on it, right?

“Well, I’ve had no interaction with the original Law & Order, but if that were to open up, I’m definitely game for it,” he answered. “I think it’s really interesting, the crossover possibilities and all that. I would obviously love to meet Sam Waterston, just as a personal thing. You know, I used to watch original Law & Order with my mother when I was a kid, and now I’m part of that world. That’d be nice to be full circle, I suppose.”

TVLine then mentioned the show’s legacy and how surreal it must be to have watched these shows and now appear regularly on them. Peter Scanavino agreed completely, laughing about it and saying it’s still hard to believe.

“Yeah. I mean, I’m not going to lie to you. Sometimes people come up to me on the street and they’re like, ‘You’re ADA Carisi!’ And I’m like, no s–t, I am! I am the ADA! [Laughs] How did that happen? So, it still, to this day, kind of blows my mind, you know?”

Nevertheless, the possibilities are endless, if occurrences like the SUV crossover are any indication of things.

Peter Scanavino Stated Filming a ‘Criminal Intent’ Episode was ‘Really Hard’

Tonight’s Organized Crime crossover isn’t the first time Peter Scanavino’s character has treaded away from the norm. Regularly appearing on SVU, he also acted on Criminal Intent. He played a different role in the episode though and said it was “really hard” to film.

In an interview with The Knockturnal a few years ago, Scanavino talked about shows he’s appeared on and acting in general. At one point, he revealed which was the most fun to film and which was the most difficult. Given the somber subject matter of the Law & Order series, it’s no surprise one of those episodes was the hardest to get through.

“I did one episode of Criminal Intent, and one episode of what they called the ‘mother ship’ of Law & Order. Actually, the Criminal Intent episode was really hard to film,” Scanavino admitted. “And it ended up being a very good episode. The Law & Order episode was some of the most fun I’ve had on these very stages. Over the course of two weeks, the episode’s not probably as good. But we had a great time doing it.”

The episode debuted way back in 2005 where Scanavino appeared as a drug addict named Jonathan Feist in the episode “Diamond Dogs.” I won’t give anything away, but it’s a doozy.
