As much as fans enjoy watching Law & Order: SVU, we have to admit that sometimes those scenes are not easy to watch.
The series covers tough topics such as sexual abuse in children and adults. But many fans reported an episode in Season 23 was too much for them.
The hit NBC crime drama has been keeping viewers on the edge of their seats for over 20 years. The show follows the detectives of the New York City Police Department’s Special Victims Unit. The detectives of the series work effortlessly to get justice for vulnerable victims and put their abusers away. The show creators approach the victim’s situations carefully and with sensitivity.
The topic of sexual assault is not easy to cover, especially when it comes to children. Mariska Hargitay’s impressive portrayal of Olivia Benson details how law enforcement interacts with victims and perpetrators.
Law & Order: SVU was NBC’s first Law & Order spin-off. This is the series that introduced viewers to detectives Olivia Benson (Mariska Hargitay) and Elliot Stabler (Christopher Meloni). The show’s success keeps fans so interested that it is TV’s longest-running primetime live-action show in history! With Season 24 already in the works, the series is not going anywhere any time soon. What do you think, Outsiders? Are you guys okay with that?
Remembering the heinous and violent crimes discussed in the show, it’s not a surprise that the series gets pretty dark. But, fans said that a particular scene in Season 23 went too far with its darkness.
So, What Happened in This ‘Law & Order: SVU’ Episode?
The dark Law & Order: SVU episode is titled ‘One More Tale of Two Victims.’ Fans follow a young woman named Crystal, as she goes out dancing one night with a young man. But at the end of the night, she kicks the man to the curb and goes home to her apartment alone. However, the next thing watchers see is Crystal being tossed onto her bed and sexually assaulted while her toddler is forced to watch.
The assault happens again with another victim. Surprisingly, the victim is the daughter of Deputy Inspector Dermott Grogan (Boris McGiver). The detectives realize that the offender has the same mode of operation.
Eventually, the team figures out the offender is the local neighborhood ice cream man. Sadly, the episode ends with the sexual assault charges being dropped against the suspect. This is due to the apparent plot holes in Crystal’s story.
Unfortunately, this is how many episodes of the show end. Not all episodes have positive endings due to how the real-life justice system works. However, there are several episodes where the justice system works in the victim’s favor. Although intense, the show succeeds in doing what’s necessary to tell victims’ stories.
