‘NCIS’ and Alden Parker Actor Gary Cole Make Sly Reference to His Role on ‘Brady Bunch’ Film

by Suzanne Halliburton

NCIS fans, did you catch The Brady Bunch reference Monday night as Alden Parker dropped some details about his family life?

The Docked episode revolved around guest star Patricia Richardson, who played McGee’s mother-in-law, Judy Fielding. And McGee was hating life as he learned that his mother-in-law was sleeping with the man who she later found dead in the sauna of a cruise ship. McGee’s wife, Delilah, also made an appearance. And as Jess observed, Delilah was doing some “helicopter daughtering.”

That brings us to Gary Cole as Alden Parker, the new special agent in charge at NCIS. Parker is gradually introducing himself to the crew. He loves high tech. He brings breakfast pastries to the office. And he’s been married before and still doesn’t know what caused his divorce.

Plus, Parker comes from a big family. So he dropped by McGee’s place to give him to tips in dealing with a mother-in-law.

“I came from a big family,” Parker tells McGee. “Like Brady Bunch big. You can’t play Switzerland forever.”

Why was that Brady Bunch reference such a funny moment? That’s because Cole played Mike Brady in The Brady Bunch Movie back in 1995. The movie was hysterical. It wasn’t so much as a reunion movie, but a satire of the 1970s classic. It reimagined the 1970s Bradys dropped in 1990s suburbia. Cole reprised his role in A Very Brady Sequel. And then in 2002, Cole played Mike, again, in The Brady Bunch in the White House. Yes, Mike Brady got to be president of the United States.

NCIS fans loved the reference. One tweeted: “Ok NCIS on CBS. I see what you did there… sneaky having Gary Cole reference his “Brady bunch” big family.”

Another NCIS fan still hasn’t forgiven Cole for replacing Gibbs (Mark Harmon). He tweeted: “If they think Gary Cole can replace Gibbs Haha He is just a Brady bunch replacement.”

Brady Bunch Wasn’t Only Classic TV Reference In NCIS Episode

And The Brady Bunch wasn’t the only classic TV reference made on NCIS Monday night. Remember one of the initial conversations Torres (Wilmer Valderrama) had with the crew after everyone found out that Judy was having a vacation fling on the cruise ship?

“So it’s like The Love Boat,” Torres said. “I used to watch the show in Spanish with my mom.”

NCIS featured lots of twists and turns Monday night with the episode told through Judy. She found a Naval commander dead in a sauna. Turns out the commander was on board to find out why a close family friend had died on the ship three months before. The friend was a waitress who fell from the 10th deck. But she’d been strangled.

The ship captain killed the commander. And it was all to cover up the fact that the captain was taking kick backs to dump toxic waste at sea.
