‘NCIS’ Alum Emily Wickersham Says ‘Big Congrats’ To Mark Harmon After His Exit From Show

by Megan Molseed

There’s little doubt that last night’s NCIS episode was one of the most heartbreaking episodes in the show’s nineteen-season run.

In Monday night’s newest NCIS episode titled “Great Wide Open,” fans were heartbroken as they said goodbye to one of our favorite officers, Leroy Jethro Gibbs.

It had been rumored for months that Gibbs, who is portrayed by Mark Harmon, would be exiting the show during this season. But how…and when this would happen, fans had no idea.

Gibbs Says a Sad Goodbye But Leaves With a Lasting Connection

It was a moving…and very bittersweet goodbye last night as Gibbs said everything he needed to say across the board before we saw him take off into a new life in Alaska.

Over the years, NCIS has seen many cast members move on from the series.

While Gibbs’s exit is a heartbreaking one, a recent post from a former NCIS cast member bidding the character farewell tells fans that while the characters may come and go; the love shared between the cast members always remains.

Former NCIS star, Emily Wickersham clearly felt every moment of last night’s emotional episode. After all, she has just been through the same experience herself.

“Big congrats to this guy!! what a run!” Wickersham shared to her Instagram story.

Wickersham’s Insta story includes a screenshot of a recent article describing Harmon’s final episodes. As well as a photo of the longtime NCIS cast member.

Emily Wickersham starred in the hit NBC investigative series for seven seasons.

Emily Wickersham’s Lasting Impression

Audiences first met Wickerham’s character, NCIS Special Agent Eleanor Bishop in the show’s eleven seasons.

During her run on the series, fans grew to love Wickersham’s character. Primarily her connection with another NCIS Agent, Nick Torres who is portrayed by Wilmer Valderrama.

When the actress announced her character’s exit from the NCIS Special Forces teams, fans were shocked. The character was heading out to begin an undercover mission. And, the length of time she would be gone is unknown.

One big piece of the puzzle that bothered NCIS fans about Wickersham’s unexpected exit was some loose-ends they felt needed to be tied up.

When Valderrama began his run on NCIS in the series’s fourteenth season, his character, Nick Torres, and Wickersham’s Bishop connected almost immediately.

During the next four seasons, the two NCIS officers shared a special bond…and there was always a “will they or won’t they” component to the relationship.

On Wickersham’s final episode with the NCIS team, the two officers shared a very intense moment while saying goodbye. The two even FINALLY shared a kiss.

This, of course, left fans who had been shipping the Emily Bishop/Nick Torres romance wanting more. However, it was a goodbye, and Bishop was gone.

While her on-screen exit may have been heartbreaking, the reason Emily Wickersham left is an exciting one.

The actress is expecting the birth of her first child in the coming months.
