Former “NCIS” star Michael Weatherly surprised us all with a sweet Tweet about his time on the show when he posted a short clip of an “NCIS” rerun. The clip is from a season 9 episode, “Sins of the Father,” which heavily features Anthony DiNozzo Sr., Tony’s father, played by Robert Wagner.

“This morning with my coffee, tired of crazy news and a shocking lack of understanding in the world,” wrote Weatherly on Twitter, “I came across this rerun with Dad… and it made me happy. Love to all and especially Senior. And The Perfect ⁦@SeanHMurray⁩ , of course.”

In the episode, DiNozzo Sr. is found behind the wheel of a crashed Rolls Royce with the body of a Naval officer in the trunk. Senior can’t remember what happened, but once the team sees who the suspect is, Tony is taken off the case. Tony doesn’t listen, of course, and does some investigating of his own throughout the episode, constantly meddling in the case. It turns out Senior was drugged and set up to look like he murdered the officer. The team finds this out at the last minute, as Senior is being booked.

The episode ends with Tony, Senior, and Gibbs having Thanksgiving dinner together. It’s a love letter to father-son relationships, as Tony and Senior’s isn’t the best, but they do try. It’s also nice to see that Michael Weatherly hasn’t forgotten his “NCIS” roots now that he’s on a new show. Jobs may change, but “NCIS” is forever.

Fans Love All the ‘NCIS’ Nostalgia from Michael Weatherly

Safe to say, Michael Weatherly has been posting a lot about his time on “NCIS” recently. On Dec. 5 he posted a photo of himself during the “NCIS”-era, captioning it, “This guy woke me up this morning. Then I realized it was still a dream. He wouldn’t stop talking about Gibbs. And his shoulder holster. #ncis dream.”

Fans love it, sort of, with one commenting, “all of the ncis nostalgia recently.. what are you up to? or do you just enjoy causing us emotional distress?” Another fan replied, “What emotional distress? I think it’s fun! If there’s a surprise at the end, all the more rewarding.”

On his recent tweet about the rerun, fans poured out their love for Senior and DiNozzo in the comments. “I really enjoy the episodes with senior!” one fan wrote. “I love the one where he and Ziva are undercover at a party and get the bad guys. The next day at NCIS , when someone is complaining about the hotel bill, Gibbs says Sr is worth every penny!”

There always was a lot of love for Tony’s dad, whenever he showed up in an episode. Even when it looked like he killed someone, as in “Sins of the Father.” He and Tony had an interesting dynamic that was fun to explore, and he was always so charismatic. Here’s hoping all this nostalgia leads to a return for the DiNozzo family.
