Timothy McGee, it’s your turn to reveal some life details on NCIS.
Chances are, Monday’s episode will tell us more about McGee (Sean Murray), who turned down the chance to take over for Gibbs as NCIS special agent in charge.
In Monday’s episode, we’ll get a glimpse of at least two of McGee’s relatives — his wife and mother-in-law.
Writers called the episode “Docked.” Here’s the synopsis from CBS: “NCIS investigates the death of a man on a cruise ship whose body is discovered in the ship’s sauna by none other than McGee’s mother-in-law, Judy.”
This NCIS episode might have a bit more humor to it. After all, Richardson helped define 1990s TV comedy when she played opposite Tim Allen in Home Improvement. But the episode could spill more tea on McGee.
In a preview, we know that Judy comes to the NCIS offices to tell how she knows the dead man. And it’s a kind of a TMI interrogation for McGee.
“We met on the second day of the cruise,” Judy tells McGee. She offers this detail in front of new boss Alden Parker (Gary Cole), Torres (Wilmer Valderrama), and Jess (Katrina Law).
“One thing led to another… We were intimate with each other … “Would it help the investigation if I went into more detail?”
In Previous NCIS Seasons, We’ve Seen McGee’s Sister, Dad and Grandmother
NCIS has offered up other McGee relatives in previous episodes. Troian Bellisario played McGee’s sister, Sarah. In real life, Murray and Bellisario are step brother and sister. Bellisario’s father created NCIS. Meanwhile, Jamey Sheridan portrayed McGee’s dad. And Lily Tomlin played McGee’s grandmother.
Margo Harshman returns as McGee’s wife, Delilah. She’s been a recurring character throughout the series. On the show, Delilah works for the Department of Defense. Her last episodes were in season 18.
In January, Murray talked about how McGee reacts when Delilah is around.
“It is very sweet,” Murray told TV Insider. “There’s a lot of heart to it. McGee is very sensitive and he wears his emotions on his sleeve. He’s usually trying to keep that in check at work, but he’s a little more free when he’s with his wife. You see a little more unfiltered McGee.”
So an unfiltered McGee would be cool to see in season 19. But he may not like an unfiltered mother-in-law telling tales about her sex life in front of the NCIS crew.
In season 18, the two took a trip to the Bahamas. They solved a crime while there.
“We knew we were going to do more stories with McGee and Delilah,” Murray said. “They’ve been married several years, have kids together, and as many of us know, sometimes there’s a lull in the marriage and the excitement goes away. You make a conscious decision with your partner to say, “Let’s get some time just for us and reconnect.”
If you’ve been following along in season 19, one main reason why McGee didn’t take over for Gibbs is that he had a wife and young family. We’ll probably learn more about that decision in Monday’s episode. Stick with Outsider for more details.
