‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Star Tori Anderson Teases a ‘Bumpy Journey’ for Kate and Lucy

by Anna Dunn

NCIS: Hawai’i fans have been loving the relationship between Kate and Lucy, but Kate actress Tori Anderson recently teased the two have a bumpy road ahead of them. It’s not necessarily a surprise though, the couple which was introduced as a romantic pair in the very first episode has had their fair share of arguments. Their initially on-again-off-again casual fling has now turned into something more.

But Kate and Lucy are very different, and NCIS: Hawai’i actress Tori Anderson explains why that’s exciting, but also a bit difficult for the two.

Anderson Described their Relationship as ‘Tumultuous’

“They have quite a tumultuous relationship, and that’s what I love about the writing of these two people,” The NCIS: Hawai’i actress told Looper. “They both come from such different backgrounds, and how they approach a relationship is so different, but I do think they are willing to learn from each other. Their communication could use a little bit of work at times, but they’re learning. They’re trying to sort of figure each other out.”

Both of them have very different wants, needs, and interests. But the two NCIS: Hawai’i characters care about each other deeply. Lucy is much more fun-loving. Her youthful energy and enthusiasm is incredibly fun. But Kate is quite hardened and stern.

A big source of contention for them is how open they should be about their relationship at work. And it looks like that pressure point is just going to keep worsening.

“Obviously, Kate is struggling with having a relationship in the work environment, whereas Lucy is much more open to that,” Anderson noted. “But there’s a bit of softening to Kate. Lucy brings out this beautiful side of Kate that she’s starting to embrace. It’s a bit of a bumpy journey, and there are going to be ups and downs. I’ll just say that.”

The Recent ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Episode Saw Characters Struggle With their Personal Lives

On top of Lucy and Kate navigating the secrecy element of their relationship, last week’s NCIS: Hawai’i episode also saw other characters navigate treacherous parts of their personal lives.

Specifically, Jane Tennant, the big boss played by Vanessa Lachey, really struggled with her relationship with her son. She failed to help her son’s friend in the way he asked her to, and because of that, he was absolutely furious with him.

We got to see the father of her children and ex-husband for the first time. And the two shared a difficult yet touching conversation about raising Alex, and how even if he’s mad at Jane for a while, she probably made the right call. Co-parenting isn’t easy, but many NCIS: Hawai’i fans found it refreshing to see a divorced pair working together in the way they did.

If you want to catch the next episode of NCIS: Hawai’i, it airs tomorrow, Monday, at 10/9 central on CBS.
