“NCIS: Hawai’i”s” Vanessa Lachey is known for being a tough leader at the helm of her unit. However, the actress admits she is not at 100% all the time. This is demonstrated by an injury Lachey suffered while filming the CBS pilot shoot for the drama series.
We all know actors must possess some form of physical fitness while shooting in tough locations. Filming scenes as the head of the Pearl Harbor crime unit definitely falls into that category. While the surroundings are indeed beautiful, it’s still a region filled with obstacles – that is, if you’re not careful.
During a scene, Lachey was tasked with a difficult action sequence. She describes the incident as trying to pull off a “Tom Cruise run,” and that’s when she seriously injured her knee.
“I did my Tom Cruise run, and then I pulled my knee, my groin, both calves, and, somehow, my arm,” the “NCIS: Hawai’i'” actress says. “It was three seconds in the pilot.”
However, Lachey handled the accident like a pro and was able to continue filming without any other issues. But the injury taught her an important lesson about taking precautions on set.
“NCIS: Hawai’i'” Star Opens Up About Lessons Learned from Childhood
While Vanessa Lachey is crushing it as the “NCIS” series first major female lead, she’s also made it clear her family comes first. The actress is married to fellow entertainer Nick Lachey. The two also share three kids together. She makes their childhood as happy as it can possibly be. And that’s because growing up, she didn’t have the best one.
The actress opened up about her mom leaving and what that did to her emotionally.
“My mother leaving me was really tough, for obvious reasons. She left when I was around 9. And adolescence was hard. I had a stepmom who didn’t want children. But what I realized when I got older was that it strengthened me, and it made me who I am, in all the best ways.”
She goes on to add:
“…It’s made me fight for things for. It’s made me not want to give up on [my kids] or me, so for sure it’s defined me.” The impact of her mother leaving and dealing with a stepmom who she says did not want children is still seen today. In her estimation. So, her relationship with her kids and her career is forever changed because of those early experiences.”
And while Lachey had some tough experiences, she’s definitely used her past to make sure that her own family is thriving and loved. Before accepting the role in ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’,” Lachey and her husband discussed what the impact of the move would do to their kids. It appears, however, that the entire family is living their best life on the island.
