"Pilot" -- The world's most successful television series continues on the seductive shores of the Aloha State with NCIS: HAWAI ' I, where the first female Special Agent in Charge of NCIS Pearl Harbor, Jane Tennant (Vanessa Lachey) and her unwavering team of specialists balance duty to family and country while investigating high-stakes crimes involving military personnel, national security and the mysteries of the sun-drenched island paradise itself. NCIS: HAWAI ' I premieres this fall Monday, Sept. 20 (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) (10:00-11:00 PM, ET/PT) on the CBS Television Network. NCIS: Hawai’i star Tori Anderson recently explained where she’d love to see Kate Whistler’s storyline go. Anderson plays Whistler, whos a stern and ambitious DIA Agent who also happens to be in a secret relationship with NCIS Agent Lucy Tara. Kate is complex and interesting and certainly has a lot of interesting potential storylines.

Tori Anderson really wants Kate Whistler to be less on the outside looking in. Right now, Whistler almost feels like a character on the periphery of things. Anderson (and most fans) hopes that’ll change.

“I hope to see Kate start working together with the team more and developing more relationships and feeling as though she has a sense of family and she has a sense of comradery with people,” she told Looper. Because I do think that she is almost like an entity that’s sort of circulating them, she’s like a voyeur in a sense. She’s on the outside looking in and wondering what could be. So, I would like to see her start developing more relationships, start loosening up a bit, letting people see other facets of her.”

Tori Anderson is Confident the ‘NCIS: Hawai’i’ Writers Room Will Deliver

Something that’s really helped Kate loosen up is her relationship with Lucy Tara, who’s a lot more playful and lighthearted. Thankfully for fans of Whistler, Anderson is confident we’ll see more sides of the character.

“I think you will, which is what I love about the creators and the show, you always get to see more about each character. You get to kind of dive in, there are always episodes that are more about certain characters and you get to see more of their backstory,” she explained. Now, she wants that with Whistler. She also really wants to see more of her developing relationship with Lucy. She’s teased that the two will hit some rough patches, but it looks like she still hopes they’ll work it out.

“And I would like to see her continue her relationship with Lucy and see where that goes and put her trust in it and know that it’s going to be okay and be open,” she finished.

It’s definitely a slow process. Kate Whistler has proven herself to be quite the tough nut to crack. It would be nice to get more of her backstory to see why.

If you want to see where the writer’s room takes Kate Whistler next, make sure to tune in to NCIS: Hawai’i when it airs on CBS at 10/9 central on Monday nights. Or, you can catch it on Hulu the next day.
