Renée Felice Smith thinks she found a Halloween winner. The former “NCIS: Los Angeles” star posted a photo on Instagram of a fan dressed in camouflage with various stuffed animals attached to him. He carries a stuffed French bulldog as well.

Smith captioned the photo, “well, @vassn17 wins Halloween! can you guess his costume?!”

That’s right, someone dressed up as her book for Halloween. The costume looks great, and it’s easy to piece together if you’ve read the book or know anything about the plot.

In “Hugo and the Impossible Thing,” Smith’s dog Hugo is the main character confronting the Impossible Thing. The other animals in the forest never conquered the Impossible Thing, but Hugo is determined. With help from his previously reluctant friends, Hugo sets out to tackle the Impossible Thing and prove that it really is possible.

It’s a great story about blazing your own path and facing your fears. Renée Felice Smith wrote the book with her partner Chris Gabriel about their dog. Hugo overcame his own Impossible Thing in the form of a life-threatening illness. The journey in the book is a metaphor for Hugo’s own journey.

What Is Renée Felice Smith Working on Now?

While a return as Nell Jones to “NCIS: Los Angeles” isn’t off the table, Renee Felice Smith is taking this time to focus on her writing and storytelling.

“I hesitate to be part of the ‘cliché actress’ calling herself a storyteller, but I really am one,” Smith told TV Line. “I’m a writer. I’m a director. We are developing television currently. We have another indie in the works. I want to tell compelling stories, poignant stories that offer an escape and chance of reflection for the viewer, so that’s where my focus is.”

She already did that extremely well with her book. It’ll be exciting to see what other stories she wants to tell.

As for “NCIS: Los Angeles,” showrunner R. Scott Gemmill implied that the door is still open for Renée Felice Smith and also for Barret Foa. “Both Renée and Barrett have been on the show a long time, and they’re both very ambitious individuals who have projects that they want to do on their own — and we’ve been giving them time off to do so. It seemed like a natural time to let them go off and do some other things, and give [their characters] what is a happy, hopefully, ending.”

Fans loved Nell and Eric’s will-they-won’t-they relationship, and probably wouldn’t complain if it came back. Currently, Nell went to Japan with Eric to start a new business, turning down a job offer from Hetty. I want to say don’t hold your breath for Nell and Eric to come back; there have been some major unfamiliar changes to the OSP in this season. But, I also want to have hope that we’ll see them again.
