Miscommunication happens, it’s just a fact of life. But sometimes, that little miscommunication can make for a pretty awkward moment. Just ask the cast of the upcoming Don’t Look Up. Jonah Hill thought he was paying respects to his iconic co-star Meryl Streep by extending her the GOAT title. Instead, Meryl Streep’s takeaway was that she must actually resemble a billy goat. It wasn’t until Jennifer Lawrence stepped in that Meryl learned about the nuances between a farm animal and “The Greatest of All Time.” And that’s also where “NCIS: Los Angeles” star LL Cool J comes in.
The rapper-turned-actor took to Instagram this week to share some solid life advice with fans. So if you’re looking for some knowledge bombs about what it takes to be the GOAT, look no further.
The ‘NCIS: Los Angeles’ Star Says Earning the GOAT Title Takes These Three Things
Staying focused, being determined, and mastering your craft. That’s what LL Cool J says it takes to eventually become the GOAT in his latest Instagram caption. Along with the tutorial, the social media post also serves to promote his clothing line.

The slideshow consists of LL Cool J recreating some of his most iconic photoshoots from his time as a world-renowned rapper and hip-hop artist. From holding a stereo on his shoulders to wielding a bouquet of roses and hanging with a fan, the “NCIS: Los Angeles” star shows us he’s still got it decades later.
How LL Cool J Became the GOAT
As per IMDb, before LL Cool J was LL Cool J, he was actually born as James Todd Smith in Long Island, New York. Unfortunately, his childhood was a rough one and he experienced a lot of trauma and abuse early on. That’s what led him to pursue hip-hop and music from a young age. It offered an escape and a means to channel all of his emotions.
By 15, some friends gave Smith a new nickname, Ladies Love Cool James. LL Cool J for short.
The next few decades of his life were marked by a game of tug-of-war between acting and music, but he ultimately found a way to succeed in both. LL Cool J still stands as one of the most talented MCs of all time with a handful of platinum records to show for it. Even his acting has gotten him noticed and earned him a Blockbuster Entertainment Award for the Best Supporting Actor in Deep Blue Sea.
And now, of course, fans follow his adventures over on “NCIS: Los Angeles.” (Which, by the way, returns to CBS with new episodes on January 2nd!)
