NCIS: New Orleans, like all the franchise’s spinoffs, had a loyal fanbase up until the bitter end. Of course, one of the fan favorites of the show was Lucas Black’s character, Special Agent Christopher LaSalle. His thick Louisiana accent, cheeky sense of humor and dedication to his job won watchers’ favor early on in the series. So, it came as a shock when LaSalle suddenly died in the line of duty – rendering no chance of a return for the popular character.
The departure marked the beginning of the end for NCIS: New Orleans, and unfortunately, the series soon followed the direction of Black’s character.
And throughout the heartbreaking end to LaSalle’s story and the spinoff, fans still wondered why the show’s production team would ever write him out of the script.
Well, as it turned out, the decision was purely Black’s. Following his departure from the show, the NCIS: New Orleans alum explained his reason for leaving the series.
“All throughout my career, there was a concern because I would observe how the entertainment industry would destroy families,” he told Express. “The way it’s run, you’re traveling, it’s a very fast pace, lots of long hours, especially in television.”
According to the former NCIS: New Orleans heartthrob, the show’s extensive shooting schedule had already begun to affect his family life.
“It was time, it was time for me to leave. I felt like my job there was finished,” Black continued. “You can’t keep going at that pace, and I think, have a healthy marriage. It’s not sustainable; it’s inevitable that something bad’s gonna happen if you stay working at that pace.”
What Has Lucas Black Been Up to Since ‘NCIS: New Orleans’
Lucas Black has kept himself busy with his wife and kids since leaving NCIS: New Orleans, keeping true to his promise to devote more time to them.
In fact, Black has documented many of their adventures on his Instagram profile. One of the family’s most recent activities included a winter fishing trip with Black and his son. The two danced out onto the bow of their boat and cast a line into the wind and water. Between air guitar solos, the former NCIS: New Orleans star managed to yank a flopping fish out of the water.
“Go to my YouTube channel for your family entertainment this Christmas break!” Black wrote in the caption of the recent clip. “Link is in my story and bio. Hope all of you have a Merry Christmas and enjoy the family gatherings during this wonderful time! We will be celebrating like never before. We love Jesus and His birth is the best news for humanity! The birth of Jesus truly shows how much God loves us.”
