“NCIS” came back with an action-filled premiere in 2022 after taking its normal winter hiatus.

The last episode before the hiatus aired on December 6 and was called “Collective Memory.” This Monday, “Pledge of Allegiance,” directed by Rocky Carroll, aired on CBS. The team came back together to try to track down a traitor that was trying to leak confidential information from the Navy.

It featured plenty of “NCIS” typical twist and turns, and even a heartwarming detail discovered about Gibbs.

The question is — how did this new episode perform in ratings?

‘NCIS’ Dips in Overall Ratings

“NCIS” dipped pretty dramatically in ratings. According to TVLine, the show had the largest audience of the night with 6.7 million viewers tuning in. It had a demo rating of 0.4 as well. Compared to the past number for “NCIS,” this is quite the downward motion.

The show is competing with other popular programs like “The Bachelor.” It started its 26th season with a total of 3.8 million total viewers and a 0.9 rating. Other shows include “The Neighborhood,” “Bob Hearts Abishola,” and the new rookie show in the franchise, “NCIS: Hawai’i.”

Many people have been citing Gibbs’ departure as a big reason for the show dipping in its ratings. The Mark Harmon farewell episode brought in a total of 7.66 million viewers and a 0.56 rating among adults 18-49, according to The Hollywood Reporter. After that, the numbers went up a little in the weeks to follow.

The show had a massive audience of 11.4 million viewers for its fall numbers. At the time, it had a 1.0 rating as well. Since then, the ratings and viewers have significantly decreased as the season progresses.

Fans Still Devastated Over Mark Harmon’s Exit

Although Mark Harmon bid farewell to his role as Gibbs on “NCIS” back at the beginning of this season, fans of the show are still bringing their unhappiness over his departure into the new year.

It may be a character exit fans will never get over.

The official “NCIS” Instagram account recently posted a photo of the entire team together. It was captioned, “The year may be coming to an end but the #NCIS team is here to stay with an all NEW episode, Monday!”

For many fans, no “NCIS” team is complete without Gibbs as the leader. One person commented on the photo and wrote, “Not even close to being as good without Gibbs- He was the show!!!! Should have ended it last year!!!”

Another person noted, “It doesn’t feel like NCIS anymore.” Although some people love the new team, led by Gary Cole as Agent Parker, others just wish Gibbs would come back. It’s possible that this could be the last season of “NCIS,” seeing as many fans just don’t enjoy the show without Harmon in it.
