“NCIS” has had its fair share of arcs over the 18 years it’s been on the air. The most recent was about the serial-turned-contract killer Paul Lamere, which ended with Gibbs’ leaving the NCIS for Alaska. We’ve had mysteries-of-the-week so far since then, and we’re wondering when the next big arc will be.

Hopefully, it happens soon. The show will be ending in the spring, and we need something captivating to keep the ratings up. My guess is, we’ll get a new story arc the closer we get to the finale. That way, “NCIS” can leave it on a cliffhanger that leads into season 20. That’s the hope, at least.

As for what the arc will be about, there are so many things to choose from. We have two new characters this season, Jessica Knight and Alden Parker, who we haven’t learned a ton about yet. Something from their pasts could come back to haunt them, and then we get to know more about their personal lives and characterization. What kind of people they really are, and what have you. Alden Parker especially; not that I think he’s hiding something sinister from the team, just that there’s much more to him than meets the eye.

We’ve done some digging into Jessica Knight’s dynamic with her mother in the previous episode, finding out that they have a strained relationship. But why is it strained? What happened between them that caused them to fight? That’s something that could be explored in a future arc.

‘NCIS’: Mark Harmon’s Incredible Number of TV Guide Covers

A fun tidbit about former “NCIS” star Mark Harmon is that he’s been on the cover of TV Guide Magazine a staggering amount of times. He’s second in line for most amount of covers, right behind Lucille Ball, who was on the first TV Guide cover in 1953. Harmon has been on 23 times, compared to Lucy’s 39.

19 of the covers are related to “NCIS”; that’s one for every season. He often appears solo, but he’s also posed with almost every co-star. He appeared in one memorable photo with Michael Weatherly and Sean Murray, where they’re all dressed up like 50’s Hollywood stars, complete with a cigar for Weatherly and a martini for Murray. The headline even calls them the “rat pack.”

Another photo featured Pauley Perrette, Mark Harmon, and Cote de Pablo, with Perrette looking uncharacteristically glam. Harmon also frequently posed with Michael Weatherly, when the magazine wanted to highlight the duo. If you want to look at all the “NCIS”-related covers and swoon over Mark Harmon and his turtlenecks, TV Insider has them all in one place. Also, it’s a fun way to see how all the stars have grown over the years.
