“NCIS” finally returned this week after a three-week hiatus, but now it looks like we only have one episode left until the midseason break.
The final episode of 2021 will air next week, on Monday, Dec. 9, per Matt & Jess Carter. The Carters believe that it won’t be a holiday-themed special like the show has done in the past. The synopsis for the episode, called “Collective Memory,” paints it to be a serious case with no holiday ties.
Here’s the synopsis: “When a hotshot financial advisor is found shot at a naval station, NCIS investigates the case by interviewing the victim’s three-dimensional hologram of herself, which she created before her death.”
A hologram? This has gotta be new territory for the “NCIS” team. The Carters see this as a comedic opportunity for the show’s writers, with different characters becoming frustrated or intrigued by the idea of “talking” to the victim. But will they ever be able to discover what really happened?
While the episode definitely promises to be entertaining, “NCIS” fans have to be disappointed that the show will be off the air again soon. CBS has taken a startling number of breaks and hiatuses this fall. They’ve never provided a concrete reason, but it likely has to do with catching up on filming for new episodes. Perhaps the pandemic slowed things down this summer, or actors’ scheduling became dicey.
But it feels like it’s been stop-and-go since September. If we’re only nine episodes in before the midseason break, does that mean we’ll see another 10 to 12 during the spring? Or will this be a shortened season? We’ll have to wait until the show returns to know for sure.
What Happened Last Night on ‘NCIS?’
When “NCIS” finally returned from its three-week hiatus yesterday, it brought a powerful story with it. Titled “Peacekeeper,” the episode followed a Navy reservist who someone found dead in the back of a car parked at a gun range.
The team immediately started investigating leads, primarily people from the victim’s background. But during the investigation, the case brought up several painful and pleasant memories for different team members.
Kasie continues to suffer from anxiety after she was held hostage by a serial killer and hitman. She wants to buy a gun but isn’t sure if she should or is ready for it. Jess also experiences anxiety, constantly thinking back to when an explosion killed her whole NCIS team.
One of the pleasant memories from the episode revolved around Torres, who loves old cars like the one the body was found in. He remembered Stella, the car he drove back in high school named after his first love.
Make sure you catch next week’s episode of “NCIS” when it airs at 9 p.m. EST on CBS.
