Although Mark Harmon as Leroy Gethro Gibbs left “NCIS” last week, there are still more people to look forward to seeing on the long-running procedural drama.

In addition to the normal cast of established characters, “NCIS” is grabbing their gear and looking to create an exciting rest of season 19. Over the years, “NCIS” has had plenty of guest stars or characters with smaller recurring roles. That includes anyone from Emilie de Ravin to Rico Rodriguez to Jamie Lee Curtis.

In addition, popular actor Scott Leo “Taye” Diggs once appeared on the show. If you’re having a hard time keeping track of what character he represented, here’s a bit of a refresher.

Taye Diggs Character ‘NCIS’

Taye Diggs joined the show for a very special episode. According to IMDb, he was on the 300th episode, titled “Scope,” which was in season 13, episode 18.

He played Marine Gunnery Sergeant Aaron Davis, a character with some rather impressive singing abilities.

Diggs is specifically a Special Ops sniper who is currently at the Walter Reed Medical Center. He’s trying to overcome injuries from his time overseas, including PTSD. He meets Gibbs when he comes to the hospital to investigate a recent murder.

It all grows to be much more cheery than that, however.

Davis has been spending his time in the hospital taking music therapy lessons to help with his recovery process. In a spectacular moment, his character puts on a stellar performance with a real-life MusiCorps participant.

Although he was only around briefly, Davis is a pretty memorable character for “NCIS” fans. It’s not every day we see a musical performance, after all.

According to TV Guide, Executive Producer Gary Glasberg was on the look for someone with a lot of musical talent. There was no more perfect of a find than Taye Diggs.

“Because there is a musical element to it, I needed someone with his talent, and he liked what he read. It’s got a little bit of everything for our fans; there’s certainly some action, and then this very heartwarming, patriotic story as well. We’re all very proud of it,” Glasberg said to the news outlet at the time of the episode.

Taye Diggs’ version of “Hallelujah” and his patriotic story resonated with a lot of people watching. In fact, one “NCIS” fan even took to Reddit to ask if there was a version of the song out there that is completely unedited. It shows just how much of an impact the song had on audiences.

Other Recent Roles for Diggs

Besides a beautiful performance on “NCIS,” Taye Diggs has been keeping busy elsewhere in recent years.

He is most known for the Broadway musicals “Rent,” “Chicago,” and “Hedwig and the Angry Inch.” He also had important roles in movies like “How Stella Got Her Groove Back,” “Brown Sugar,” and “The Best Man.”

One of his most recent roles was in the popular TV series “All American” as Billy Backer. He was also in “Ada Twist, Scientist” this year as Dad Twist.

His upcoming projects include “While You Were Dancing,” “Mammon,” and “The Grays.”
