He’s played numerous memorable and massively iconic characters throughout his prolific Hollywood career. But now, Nicolas Cage has now gone full meta, taking on a rather unusual film role; playing himself in the upcoming film The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent.
A recently released first-look trailer gives Nicolas Cage fans an early glimpse at the unique film which is set to be released next spring.
Not long ago, Lionsgate released images highlighting moments taken from the long-awaited flick.
And now fans of the longtime actor have been treated with the film’s first official trailer.
As the trailer begins, we meet award-winning actor Nicolas Cage portraying, well, a character named Nicolas Cage.
Things soon get a bit dicey, however. Nicolas Cage’s character gets involved in some shady dealings as he and a motley crew of costars get involved in a variety of bizarre and chaotic adventures.
A Fun Cast Joins Nicolas Cage In ‘Massive Talent’
Along with the film’s fan-favorite star, The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent features a fun cast joining Cage on screen.
Some of the unique Massive Talent ensemble include The Mandalorian’s Pedro Pascal, Tiffany Haddish, Neil Patrick Harris, Bad Boys for Life’s Jacob Scipio, and Sharon Horgan from Game Night.
The upcoming film comes from the minds of Tom Gormican who co-wrote and directs the meta-action film. The film’s other script creator, Kevin Etten, is also producing the unique meta-comedy film. Joining Gormican and Etten Mike Nilon, Kevin Turren, and (the real) Nicolas Cage himself.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent features Cage as a fictionalized version of himself.
Massive Talent finds Nick Cage feeling he’s at a crossroads after experiencing a lack of creative fulfillment in his work while also finding himself in financial distress.
Cage Faces Few Options
Facing few options at this point, Neil Patrick Harris’s character suggests Massive Talent’s Nicolas Cage accept a $1 million job from a billionaire superfan named Javi to attend his birthday party.
Now, this seems like a pretty straightforward role and/or job, right? Not so for the famous Nicolas Cage, unfortunately.
Cage soon learns that dealing with Javi could put himself and his loved ones in danger.
Nicolas Cage must then live up to the legends he has created on screen. Channeling some of his most memorable roles in order to save those he loves to most.
Of course, this gives the Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent creators multiple chances to please fans with some fun easter-eggs throughout the movie. The film is chock-full of Nicolas Cage references to many of his most iconic films.
The Unbearable Weight of Massive Talent hits theaters next spring in April 2022.
