Nicolas Cage Said He Drew Acting Inspiration From These Exotic Pets

by Samantha Whidden

He has an acting career that spans over three decades, and now Nicolas Cage says he gets some acting inspiration from his exotic pets.

During a recent interview with the New York Times, Nicolas Cage recalled how the two king cobras were not happy and kept trying to hypnotize him by showing me their backs. “And then they’d lunge at me,” Cage explained. He also shared that his neighbors heard the cobras and were not happy about them. He decided to donate them to a zoo. But he used the cobra’s hypnotizing side-to-side method for his role in Ghost Rider: Spirit of Vengeance.

“That’s something my character does before he attacks,” Nicolas Cage explained. He then noted that animals are fun “places” to get inspiration. He also has a pet octopus that apparently helps him become a better actor.

Recently, during an interview with Marilyn Manson for Interview magazine, Nicolas Cage spoke about his new animal, a crow. “His name is Huginn, after one of[the Norse god] Odin’s two ravens. Huginn and Muninn. And he’s amazing.”

Nicolas Cage notes that the cow says hi when he walks into a room and bye when he leaves. “The other morning, he started laughing and called me an a—hole,” he declared. Manson then asked why the crow called him that. He responded, “I’m trying to figure that one out.”

Nicolas Cage & His Wife Riko Shibata Are Expecting a Child

On Thursday (January 6th), a rep for Nicolas Cage and his wife, Riko Shibata, announced the couple is expecting a child. This will be Cage’s third child and Shibata’s first. The pregnancy comes less than a year after Cage and Shibata got married in February 2021.

Nicolas Cage recently spoke to Entertainment Tonight about meeting Shibata for the first time. “We met in Japan. I thought she was stunning when I met her. We had a lot in common. She likes animals, too. So I asked her, ‘ Do you have any pets?’ And she said, ‘Yes, I have flying squirrels.’ She had two sugar gliders. I thought, ‘That’s it. This could work out.’”

Nicolas Cage also announced his engagement to Shibata in August 2020. He revealed that they got engaged over FaceTime after being six months apart. They then got married at Wynn Las Vegas. Prior to Shibata, Cage was married to Patricia Arquette from 1995 to 2001; Lisa Marie Presley from 2002 to 2004; Alice Kim from 2004 to 2016; and Erika Koike in 2019. He was only married to Koike for four days before they filed for an annulment. The divorce was granted later that year.

Nicolas Cage has a 16-year-old son, Kal-El (named after Superman’s birth name) with Kim; and a 31-year-old son named Weston with former girlfriend Christina Fulton. He also had two grandsons born in 2014 and 2016.
