‘One Chicago’: Here’s Why the Franchise Is Taking a Hiatus

One Chicago fans have had an amazing fall season as NBC has been regularly airing brand-new episodes of their favorite Chicago Med, Chicago Fire, and Chicago PD episodes. Since the fall seasons premiered a few months ago, One Chicago fans haven’t seen any breaks in brand new episodes.

However, fans of NBC’s One Chicago franchise found the streak was over last week. As viewers sat down to tune into Chicago Fire, PD, and Med on November 17 they found the franchise was running rerun episodes of each series.

This decision for NBC to throwback to earlier episodes of this season’s One Chigaco episodes isn’t a typical one. This leads fans to wonder…why did NBC decide to take a break after an eight-week run of brand new episodes?

This move, notes a recent Fansided article isn’t entirely clear.

Especially since most of the dramas featured on NBC will be airing their regular fall finales right before this week’s Thanksgiving holiday.

‘One Chicago’ Fans Can Expect A Unique Schedule As 2021 Wraps Up

Of course, it’s not uncommon for our favorite broadcast networks to give their popular dramas a break over the holidays.

This is largely in order to make room for special holiday-centered programming. Plus, viewership tends to go down during the weeks leading up to Christmas and the New Year. After all, most people are crazy busy with a variety of celebrations during this time.

So, it certainly made sense that One Chicago fans expected a Wednesday evening of brand-new programming on NBC last week. Especially after the network aired an uninterrupted eight-week streak of brand-new premieres.

It would make sense that last week would have been the perfect time to air the ninth episode of each One Chicago series.

The franchise could then move onto the planned hiatus for the remainder of 2021. However, it seems, NBC has instead opted to go with a unique schedule this year; as the One Chicago shows move into their fall hiatus.

According to the upcoming lineup, NBC has opted to air the finales in December, rather than November. So, fans can expect to see a bit of a break in their Chicago Fire, Med, and PD episodes before the hit show’s return with new episodes on Wednesday, December 8.

These will be the final episodes set to premiere before the One Chicago franchise takes a hiatus for the remainder of 2021.

One potential reason for the One Chicago franchise choosing this schedule could be that the Chicago Fire is gearing up to air a special holiday episode. It’s entirely possible that NBC wanted to make sure this episode would air in December; rather than before the holiday season even kicks off on Thanksgiving.
