Back in October, the Pistol Annies gave the country music world one hell of a Christmas present. Their first Christmas album Hell of a Holiday dropped on October 22. Before that, they released the first single, “Snow Globe,” to give fans a taste of what they could expect. Earlier this month, the Annies released a video for the single. If it doesn’t get you into the holiday spirit, check your pulse. Check it out below.

In the video, we see the Pistol Annies on a stage that’s all decked out for the holiday season. The glimmering blue and white backdrop brings images of shiny wrapping paper to mind. That’s an appropriate image to have in mind here, they’re really giving us a gift.

Sonically, “Snow Globe” sounds more like retro rock than the Pistol Annies’ usual full-on country sound. The background vocals are full of “oohs” and “aahs” which brings to mind bouncy 60s tunes from the Beach Boys or similar acts. However, Miranda Lambert, Angaleena Presley, and Ashley Monroe’s voices are as gorgeous and down-home as ever. It’s a killer combination. Then, they add a saxophone solo. The addition of horns to any song, especially something with the spirit of country music at its core, is always a nice touch.

The Pistol Annies Foreshadowed the Release of Hell of a Holiday

The Pistol Annies shot the video for “Snow Globe” back in September. They got together at The Mulehouse Theater in Columbia, Tennessee to put the whole thing together. We know this because Chaz Molder, Columbia’s mayor tweeted a photo with the Annies on September 27 of this year. Check it out below and compare the dresses the ladies are wearing in the photo to the ones in the video.

In that tweet, Molder said that it was an honor to welcome the Pistol Annies to Columbia. Furthermore, his connection to the Mulehouse made the day extra special for him. “Seeing them shoot a music video in our town, on the same stage where I had pre-school performances as a kid, was a moment I’ll never forget.”

It’s a nice picture and a very sweet post. However, Pistol Annies fans looked a little deeper into the post. It didn’t take long for speculation to start flying. Seeing the Annies in holiday dresses after shooting a music video made many of their fans believe that they were working on some kind of Christmas project. They announced Hell of a Holiday three days later.

Hell of a Holiday includes ten original Christmas songs as well as a couple of classics. The Pistol Annies put their spin on “Auld Lang Syne” and “Sleigh Ride” for the album. Add the Annies to your holiday celebration this year.
