Ryan Reynolds Mourns the Loss of Betty White in Emotional Post

Add star actor Ryan Reynolds to the growing list of Hollywood celebrities who are sharing heartfelt tributes following the death of Betty White.

We all have heavy hearts today. The one and only Betty White passed away at the age of 99 on Friday. Widely referred to as one of the pioneers of early television, White enjoyed more than seven successful decades in the industry. You can recognize her face almost anywhere. But she is best known for her roles as Sue Ann Nivens in the CBS sitcom The Mary Tyler Moore Show and Rose Nylund in the ’80s NBC show Golden Girls. She also played Elka Ostrovsky on TV Land’s Hot in Cleveland.

The news of Betty White’s death is like taking a punch to the gut. It hurts. It hurts really bad. But it hurts especially so for actor Ryan Reynolds. The two shared a very close relationship despite their age difference of more than 50 years. It is only fitting that Reynolds took to social media on Friday to share a heartfelt tribute.

“The world looks different now,” Reynolds wrote on Twitter. “She was great at defying expectation. She managed to grow old and somehow, not old enough. We’ll miss you, Betty. Now you know the secret.”

You may be wondering what led to Reynolds and White being such close friends. Well, the answer to that is that both actors co-starred in the 2009 rom-com The Proposal, alongside Sandra Bullock. Ever since then, the two maintained an adorable relationship. As a matter of fact, Reynolds often referred to the Golden Girls star as his ex-girlfriend.

“I heard that scripts for Golden Girls were only 35 pages, which makes sense because so many of the laughs come from Betty simply looking at her castmates,” he said.

Reynolds then joked that White is a “typical Capricorn.” His reasoning? She sleeps all day and is “out all night boozing and snacking on men.”

Ryan Reynolds Never Missed a Chance to Wish Betty White Happy Birthday

If you can’t tell by now, Ryan Reynolds and Betty White shared an incredibly unique friendship. Because of that, the Deadpool actor never missed a chance to wish her a happy birthday in the past. In 2019, he took to Instagram to joke about their romantic history.

“I don’t usually post about ex-girlfriends. But Betty’s special,” Reynolds wrote at the time. “Happy Birthday to the one and only, @bettymwhite.”

And last year in celebration of White’s 99th birthday, Reynolds posted some behind-the-scenes footage from the film The Proposal, to his Instagram story. The clip featured both him and Betty White, along with Sandra Bullock.

“We made this 12 years ago. Betty turns 99 today. But she is 100 [percent] the funniest person on the planet.”
