A new episode of “SEAL Team” premieres today (Sunday, Nov. 21) on Paramount+. This new episode was directed by the show’s star David Boreanaz.

So, fans will get to see the 52-year-old television star’s work both in front of and behind the camera. He plays the character of Jason Haynes in the military drama.

On Sunday, Boreanaz took over the show’s Instagram stories to share what it was like for him to direct the latest episode of “SEAL Team.”

“It’s a great episode to make and it’s very near and dear to my heart. And it was very emotional for (the) Jason Hayes character. … ” Boreanaz said at the beginning of his “SEAL Team” Instagram takeover.

One topic he covered in the takeover was his stylistic approach to this episode. “For me, it was really all about the points of view from every character that was involved. So, we had to shoot from everyone’s POV as they progressed through the episode. … So, it was important stylistically to shoot a lot of POVs from their story and how it evolved.”

David Boreanaz also talked about how he directed himself in episodes of “SEAL Team.”

“I do a lot of prep. I think the prep is the most important part in preparing for an episode like this. So, the director, David Boreanaz, has to talk to the actor, David Boreanaz, who’s playing Jason Hayes in the scene. So I prepare for all that. And I work really hard with my acting coach, Ivana Chubbuck … I do a lot of work ahead of time,” he also explained.

He also said that his acting and directing work come together during the filming process.

“So I do the directing process and the prep, and then I do the acting process and the prep. And then, I throw it out the door so they kind of marry each other. They don’t really argue a lot, but they do marry each other. I have to trust that process. I have to trust those choices,” the “SEAL Team” star also explained.

Another topic he covered in the Instagram story was the challenges he faced while working on this episode of “SEAL Team.”

“Because everything was kind of told through the POV of all the characters, the difficulty was really kind of keeping that in sync. So as the script progressed, every character had a story to tell and all of them had POVs. That was a very challenging aspect to it,” David Boreanaz explained.

Turns out, the actor enjoyed pulling double-duty on this episode of “SEAL Team.” And he was very grateful to the people who helped make it happen.

“But you know, it was a really great experience for me personally, as a director, to do an episode like this. I can’t thank the cast and the crew enough for all their help and all their hard work,” he shared.
