Jarrod Schulz and Brandi Passante were the quarrelsome king and queen of curios on Storage Wars. The former couple fought more with each other than they did with their competitors. But that was part of their charm. Viewers tuned in to watch them snipe at one another in between bids. Though, it turned out those jabs weren’t as playful as the show made it appear. They announced their break-up in 2018 after nearly 20 years together.
But what happened?
Jarrod Schulz met Brandi Passante in 1999 when she joined the carpet-cleaning business he worked at. Though they have different recollections of who made the first move.
“I was Brandi’s boss,” Schulz told the Philippine Daily Inquirer in 2016. “My boss hired her, and then she pretty much stalked me after that.” Passante says he has that backward. Jarrod “relentlessly” hit on her so much that she found it “embarrassing,” she said on The Mystery Men Show in 2017.
It wasn’t enough to put her off of him, though, as they started dating soon after meeting.
Jarrod Schulz eventually left that job to sell mortgages, but that came to an abrupt end during the housing-market collapse in the 2000s. Schulz said he was at a loss of what to do. But that changed when his aunt, who managed a storage facility, told him about storage-locker auctions. He and Brandi Passante started buying and selling the items found in those lockers. They were good at it, eventually opening a thrift store called Now and Then in Orange, California.
Things were going well. They had two children — daughter Peyton and son Cameron — and a chance encounter at an auction landed them a spot on Storage Wars.
But cracks were forming in their relationship.
Jarrod Schulz, Brandi Passante Hid Their Break-Up
Jarrod Schulz and Brandi Passante were fan favorites on Storage Wars. They got a spin-off show in 2014 called Brandi & Jarrod: Married to the Job. Despite the title, the couple never married, and A+E canceled the show after the first season.
Things started to unravel after that. It’s unclear why, but in 2018 the couple called it quits. But they kept that a secret at first. They didn’t tell fans about the break-up until earlier this year in the Storage Wars season 13 premiere. Schulz showed up at an auction with a new girlfriend, Rochel Beckman
Passante said she’s much happier now.
“I wasn’t really allowed to have an identity for many, many years,” Passente said, according to The Sun. “And so these last couple of years, I’m kind of coming into my own and figuring out who I am.
“I just don’t have an attachment to anyone. I’ve definitely dated and things like that, but … right now it’s not something I’m really trying hard to seek out.”
Schulz hasn’t said much about their break-up, and after an alleged altercation with Passente earlier this year, he might be done with the show as well. Storage Wars hasn’t confirmed the rumors, but reports say he won’t appear in episodes this season.
TMZ reported earlier this year that authorities in California charged Schulz with misdemeanor domestic violence battery. He allegedly pushed Passante twice during an argument at a bar in April. Neither has publicly commented on the incident.
