Netflix Adding Classic ’80s Movie To Its Catalog

It’s always worth taking a look at what Netflix adds to its movie catalog. Especially if the movie happens to be a classic from the 1980s.

Good news for the streaming platform’s fans. Netflix has added “Do the Right Thing,” directed by Spike Lee and released in 1989.

That’s according to an article from PopCulture. The film gained two Academy Award nominations for Best Actor in a Supporting Role (Danny Aiello) and Best Writing, Screenplay Written Directly for the Screen (Lee).

“Do the Right Thing” also earned four Golden Globe Awards nominations, even one for Best Film.

Netflix Puts Cannes Film Festival Movie Up For Customers

Netflix is adding more movies these days to its catalog available for its customers.

Lee’s movie was even among finalists for Best Film at the Cannes Film Festival. It did not win the honor. At the 2021 Cannes Film Festival, which was held in 2020, Lee was the first Black Competition jury president in the festival’s 74-year history.

When asked to reflect on his movie’s legacy, Deadline reported that he talked about events in the movie. One of them sees an African-American shot and killed by police officers. Lee noted that still is relevant today in light of the killings of George Floyd and Eric Garner.

“You would think and hope that 30-something motherf–king years later that Black people would have stopped being hunted down like animals,” he said.

Other movies joining Netflix’s movie catalog include “A Cinderella Story,” “The Blue Lagoon,” “Blade Runner: The Final Cut,” “Clear and Present Danger,” “Cold Mountain,” and “Labyrinth.”

High School Football Docuseries Now Part of Streaming Service

Anyone who truly loves the streaming service and high school football is in luck. Netflix is coming to add its own touch to the Friday night fun times.

It has been announced that a new series entitled “Titletown High” has started airing on Netflix on Aug. 27.

This original docuseries features the Valdosta Georgia Wildcats’ football team.

The team has been named the “winningest” high school football team in history. Also, the Georgia high school team has won 24 state championships.

Additionally, it also has brought home six national championships. The Wildcats have won a total of 932 games, which is the most in high school football history.

The docuseries explores the town of Valdosta, too. It puts a spotlight on the relationships and personalities among the Wildcats. Toss in the families and community and you have one whale of a show.

Finally, it will look at Rush Propst, who is the head coach of the Wildcats football team.

Propst joined Valdosta as head coach while the team moved up to the state semifinals. But Propst lost his job this spring after accusations of recruiting players surfaced.
