Star of Paramount+’s ‘Mayor of Kingstown’ Jeremy Renner Shares Details About His Character on the Series

While chatting with Collider, star of Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown Jeremy Renner opened ups bout what drew him to the show. “There was a lot I had to learn about, within the shorthand of the prison dialogue and what all this stuff meant,” Renner said. He also said that dialogue is “off-the-cuff” and slang-like.”

“That’s where the audience is gonna get a little bit behind, for that,” Renner explained. But the more we make sense of it and we show it, then they’ll get what we’re talking about.”

Renner then noted that the creator of the Paramount+ show, Talor Sheridan, wrote the scripts that way because it is the “truth” of the matter. “We don’t pull any punches. Everything in it is there for a reason. We spend time on that death sequence for a reason. That’s part of what this world is.”

While continuing to discuss Sheridan’s approach to the new series, Renner said, “[Sheridan’s] the one that’s in charge of that journey. I’m sure he’s got seven seasons in his brain. How far does it go? I don’t know.”

Renner did admit that there has been talking about some of the “long-term stuff” with different characters and stories on the Paramount+ show. “But we gotta do these first 10 [episodes] first. That’s what I’m focused on.”

Paramount+’s Mayor of Kingstown premiered on November 14th. The series follows the McLucky family who are labeled “power brokers” for tackling “themes of systemic racism, corruption, and inequality, in the town of Kingstown, Michigan.

Renner stars alongside Dianne West, Hugh Dillon, Derek Webster, Emma Laird, Kyle Chandler, and Taylor Handley on the series.
