Survivor contestant Naseer Muttalif just opened up about his decision not to use his immunity idol in last week’s episode, which wound up getting him sent home. In the episode, the rest of the tribe blindsided Muttalif. He had full confidence that they were all going to vote for someone else, Heather.

But after a tiebreaker vote, Naseer was the one who wound up voted off the island. In a recent Twitter Q&A with Survivor fans, Naseer had a great answer to a fan who wanted to know why he didn’t play his immunity idol.

“Because I was an idiot!” he laughed, “Because I trusted Shan and Ricard!”

Of course, Shan and Ricard have been a dangerous team in this game. They’ve been playing and blindsiding people left and right. While they’ve had their fair share of arguments, it looks like they’ve been able to put their differences aside and continue to play together.

Naseer was the latest takedown orchestrated by Shan and Ricard. While Shan originally wanted to target Heather or Erica, who’ve become close in the game, Erica won immunity and Ricard really didn’t want to take out heather. Heather, after all, hasn’t shown that much strategy. Granted, it’s become a meme amongst survivor fans at this point how little screentime she has gotten.

Naseer Went Down in a Classic ‘Survivor’ Blindside

Eventually, Shan and Ricard decided to clue in Heather and Erica on their plan. This week, the tribe was split into two with this group being on one side of the island. They were going to let Naseer believe heather was the one going home, then take him out while he was feeling comfortable. It worked.

But, let’s be real. They’re both major threats in this game. Therefore, as the pool narrows, there will come a time when they have to turn on each other. With Shan having the immunity idol and being in a clear position of power, it’s likely she’ll be a target looking at next week.

Naseer’s happy-go-lucky attitude when answering the question really reflects his attitude going into the show. He was immensely grateful for the opportunity to play and stands by that. He had fantastic survival skills and went out of his way to gather food for the whole tribe.

It’s nice to know he has such a fun attitude, even when talking about his mistakes.

Even though Naseer and Evvie both left last week, this year’s pool of contestants still rocks. With Xander, Erica, Heather, Danny, Deshawn, Shan, Ricard, and Liana still left there’s plenty of personalities who could easily snag the win. So if you want to see what happens next, you can tune on on Wednesdays at 8/7 Central to keep watching.
