Bad news, “SWAT” fans. No new episode will air this week on CBS, even though the show just returned from its midseason hiatus around the holidays.
According to Matt & Jess, “SWAT” Season 5 Episode 11 returns on Jan. 23, two weeks from now. All the other popular CBS shows will take similar hiatus for the next two weeks. Why is that?
Because of the NFL playoffs. CBS knows that millions of fans who would normally watch “SWAT” and other shows will tune into the playoff games instead. The Super Bowl’s only a month away, so the Carters believe CBS is trying to avoid more low ratings by pushing off the next episode.
Other reasons could include post-production issues. But the show also just got back from a month-long hiatus, so it’s hard to say for sure. Either way, we’ll eagerly be waiting to see what happens to Hondo and the team next.
At this point in time, we have an episode title for Episode 11 but no description. It’s called “Old School Cool,” which could reference any number of things. Check back here, Outsiders, to learn more about the coming episode, which airs on Jan. 23.
‘SWAT’ Suffers From Low Ratings as It Switches Time Slot
During the midseason hiatus, “SWAT” switched time slots from its regular Friday time to a Sunday night slot instead. The move came as “SEAL Team” wrapped up its final episodes this December. “SWAT” moved in to replace “SEAL Team” on Sunday nights, but the move has done more harm than good.
When a new “SWAT” episode aired on Sunday, Jan. 2, it performed with the lowest rating and viewers of the season. Only 3.7 million viewers tuned in, and the demo rating ended up being 0.4. It’s an improvement over “SEAL Team,” according to TVLine, which only pulled in 3.5 million viewers and a 0.4 demo rating.
But hopefully “SWAT” can get its numbers back up once this brief hiatus ends. At this point, a sixth season is still up in the air at CBS. We could see Hondo and our faves return next fall. Or this could easily be our last season with them. Only the numbers can say.
When the Shemar Moore-led show does return, make sure you catch it at 10 p.m. EST or 9 p.m. CST time. It will air later than it did during its Friday night timeslot last fall. To remind fans, Moore recently posted a photo of his character, Daniel “Hondo” Harrelson, along with the new time printed on the photo.
