‘SWAT’ Star Alex Russell Takes on New Role on the Hit Series

by Anna Dunn

SWAT star Alex Russell is taking on a new role in the hit series. Not only will Russell act but the Jim Street actor is taking a seat in the director’s chair. He’s directed some short films, but this his directorial debut on a major television show.

The episode, called Safe House, is also the last episode of SWAT to come out this year. The description of the episode released by CBS goes as follows:

“‘Safe House’ – When an undocumented woman is violently abducted, the team forms an unlikely alliance to try and bring her home alive, on the CBS Original series S.W.A.T.”

The series will return in early January and will do so in a brand new timeslot. SWAT is taking SEAL Team‘s old time slot on Sundays at 10/9 central following NCIS: Los Angeles. The ratings in the Friday spot are good. This Sunday spot may prove itself to be a bit of a challenge, especially since switching timeslots in the middle of the season is never great.

How Alex Russell’s Co-Star Got Cast on ‘SWAT’

Alex Russell is now taking a seat in the director’s chair and it’s been quite a journey since he got cast on the hit CBS show. But the process for his co-star, David Lim, was quite tedious.

“I got an appointment to come in and read for ‘SWAT.’ I actually read for two different roles when I started the audition process,” the actor explained in an interview with Tell Tale TV.

“This was now, I believe my third audition. At the time I was reading for a role whose description said he was in his late 40s. So I knew that I wasn’t the best match for the part, but I wanted to go in and give a good audition,” Lim said.

But things didn’t go so smoothly.

“I remember, an hour after the callback, my manager calls me up and says ‘Hey! It’s not going to happen on SWAT.’ And of course, I was bummed,” Lim explained. “I loved the script, and I really wanted to be part of the project. But at the same time, I totally understood. I wasn’t really a good fit for that part I was reading for.”

Lim Got a Call a Week Later

Thankfully, as you know, that wasn’t the end of the now SWAT star’s story. Soon, he got a call about a new part.

“About a week later I got a call from my agent, saying that SWAT had cast me in the part of Victor Tan, and they offered me a role!” he said.

SWAT now has an interesting cast full of talented actors like Alex Russell and David Lim. All audition processes are different, and Lim’s sure seems like a rollercoaster. If you want to watch Russell, Lim, and the rest of the cast on SWAT, tune in Friday for one last go in that timeslot at 9 pm EST.
