Music is so subjective, however, Charles Fox might have a point with one song by Davy Jones of The Monkees that was featured on The Brady Bunch. When he went solo, Jones had a number of hits, but none like this.

It was back in the 1990s and grunge music was king. There were so many new bands popping up and the sound defined the decade. Back in 1971, Fox worked with Jones on a song called Girl. However, when The Brady Bunch movie came out in 1995, they had to have a grunge version of Girl on the soundtrack. But, they wanted a grunge version to show an updated and modern version of the song. Fox talked to Gold Mine Mag about that version of the song and why he hated it.

“Many of the song[s] I’ve written for movies I’ve actually produced but I didn’t do that for ‘Girl.’ I was pleased with Davy’s recording of ‘Girl.’ It was a fun, upbeat, energetic performance. It grows on you over time, too, because it’s been heard so many times. When they made the Brady Bunch movie, they not only redid the song and did a grunge version but they redid the whole story around Davy Jones coming to town and taking the girl to the prom. That’s the one Brady Bunch storyline they repeated for the movie,” Fox explained.

“When they did it again, Steve Tyrell, the producer of the track, called me one day and said, ‘Hey Carlie, I just did your song ‘Girl’ for The Brady Bunch movie.’ And I said, ‘Great Steve!’ And he said, ‘Yeah, you’re gonna hate it.’ And he was right, I didn’t care for the grunge rock version; I like the original.”

The Brady Bunch Movie starred a familiar face, too.

‘The Brady Bunch’ Movie Starred One Famous Face

For folks that remember The Brady Bunch Movie, the actor who played Mike Brady is still a big TV star. None other than Gary Cole, star of NCIS. During his long career, the actor has played numerous roles. However, his role as the patriarch of the Brady family is one of his most memorable.

During his time as Mike, he appeared in two theatrical movies as well as a made-for-TV movie in 2002. From there, he went on to work on other projects including Talladega Nights: The Ballad of Ricky Bobby. Again, playing a dad, although the farthest thing from Mike Brady as possible.

Now, Cole plays Alden Parker on NCIS. He has taken over as the lead of the team from Gibbs. That has not been an easy transition but one that he has handled very well.
