‘The Conners’ Showrunner’s Say No Roseanne References Are ‘Off-Limits’

by Hannah Heser

The hit television series, “The Conners” heads into its Season 4 midseason intermission. ABC is keeping the titular family and the viewers on their feet this season. Roseanne Barr’s legacy and influences have became stronger in this season because of Dan and Louise’s marriage and Darlene’s crisis of faith, relationships and motherhood. Fans will get to see the real reason for Roseanne’s golden age very soon.

The Conners” has also been referencing Roseanne Barr’s iconic character through the narratives of younger generations. Another character on this show, Becky, has struggled with sobriety over the years. The audience has not seen this like they have with Darlene, though.

The director of the show, Bruce Helford said that any references being made towards Roseanne are considered, as they’re brought up during the creative process. This is opposed to somebody’s motivation to try and get as many callbacks as possible.

He wrote, “Yeah, we’re respectful of the memory. But also, there are issues that the kids have, sometimes the kids have beef with the way they were raised. And on Roseanne, they mentioned it. Anything that feels honest at the moment. We don’t go out of our way to put a mention, obviously, in every episode. It’s only when we all just kind of stop and look at each other and go, ‘You know, they would bring up Roseanne here at this moment, so we should do it.” And we do it. It’s loving of the character because the character was beloved, in her family and with viewers, and we try to keep it respectful to that. But yeah, there’s really nothing off-limits about that. We really will discuss anything that pertains to the relationship between Dan and his wife, or the kids and their mom.”

“The Conners” aired its winter finale on ABC on Wednesday, December, 1st. If you missed it, you can replay it on their website or channel. Get ready for all of the shows debuting in early 2022. It will be out of this world!

What Does Roseanne Barr’s Life Look Like Now?

After ABC fired Roseanne Barr for a racist tweet, she mentioned what her life looks like now in an interview.

She wanted to go on ABC and apologize for her behavior on Twitter, but they wouldn’t budge. Her mom saw that they canceled the show after this incident. She said this was the worst thing they could’ve done for her and it’s no fun watching other people write her story.

After all, she is slowly moving on from the mistake and picking herself back up. Luckily, the show reappeared on ABC a few years later.
