‘The Price Is Right’ Host Drew Carey Talks ‘Jeopardy!’ Producer Mike Richards Making Comeback

by Shelby Scott

This season of “Jeopardy!” has been a tumultuous one, following long-time “Jeopardy!” host Alex Trebek’s demise last fall. After the iconic host’s death, showrunners saw a host of potential new host auditions. However, production kept the choice within their crew. They soon credited former executive producer Mike Richards with the role. However, his reign as “Jeopardy!” show host didn’t last long after some insensitive comments from a 2013 podcast surfaced.

Now, as Richards hosts a minimal five episodes during the 2021 season of “Jeopardy!” there remains the question as to whether the controversial former host and executive producer will be welcomed back to the network. As far as “The Price is Right” host Drew Carey believes, Richards will eventually make a comeback to the network.

After Carey appeared on a recent edition of “Daily Blast Live,” he shared he believes Richards will have “a really good second act” once the heat “dies down” from ongoing controversy. Many may beg to differ as Richards’ insensitive comments remain relevant to ongoing social issues today. Nevertheless, “The Price is Right” host remains steadfast in his thoughts.

Whether or not “Jeopardy!” fans eventually forgive Richards’ previous sexist and prejudiced comments remains to be proven. Currently, fans of the show are still fuming. Carey furthered his belief in Richards’ return to “Jeopardy!” and the network overall.

“He’s going to need some time away from the storm of it all,” Carey said, but believes he will make a return “once that dies down.” He also emphasized that Richards is “a great producer” and “hopefully, he’s going to have a good future ahead of him.”

Mayim Bialik Steps Up From Part-Time ‘Jeopardy!’ Guest Host

While the Mike Richards controversy ensues and we wait to see whether “The Price is Right” host Drew Carey’s prediction comes true, “Jeopardy!” fans are relieved to see “Big Bang Theory” actress Mayim Bialik step up to the host’s plate.

Following Richards’ leave from the iconic game show just nine days after airing his first episode as host, Bialik immediately asked how she could help. Further, the beloved actress disdained to add fuel to the Mike Richards fire after she was asked about her further contributions to the show. She previously shared with NBC News, “What I can say is that when Mike [Richards] stepped down as host, what I said was ‘How can I help?’ because I already had been welcomed into the ‘Jeopardy!’ family.’

For the remainder of the season, Bialik plans to share duties with “Jeopardy!” legend Ken Jennings, fans’ ultimate first pick for new host following Alex Trebek’s death. Bialik said she and Jennings endeavor to bring stability to the beloved American game show following this season’s numerous upheavals.

She emphasized, “We’re…trying to get some stability and consistency back to our wonderful staff and crew.” Bialik also stated, “My interest right now is for the viewers to not think much about what’s going [on] in terms of hosting.”

The actress and current host placed additional emphasis on returning to the integrity of “Jeopardy!” and focusing on the show’s “long, long streak right now” courtesy of reigning champion, Matt Amodio.
