The View is back to remote production as the Omicron variant sweeps through New York.

The talk show returned Monday after a two-week-long holiday hiatus. The women were without moderator Whoopi Goldberg, who tested positive for COVID during the Christmas break.

So producers of The View opted to have the three remaining co-hosts do the show from home. Plus, part-time host Ana Navarro joined the show from her home in Miami.

Joy Behar took Goldberg’s place as moderator. It’s a role she often fills when Goldberg is absent from the show because of other acting projects. Behar told the audience of Goldberg’s positive test.

“Since she’s vaxxed and boosted, her symptoms have been very, very mild,” said Behar, the most experienced host on The View. “But we are being super cautious here at The View.”

Most of The View Hosts Dealt with COVID Over the Holidays

The women shared stories on how they spent their Christmas break. Navarro teared up as she talked about her situation. Her mother, Violeta, died 10 days before Christmas. Navarro explained that her 81-year-old mother had been ill for a while, but her death still was heartbreaking. Navarro then told The View audience that she had to cancel her family Christmas plans and still had food in the fridge from the catered meal she bought for the holiday dinner.

Navarro’s parents lived in Nicaragua. She wanted her father to fly to Miami. But he tested positive for COVID. In an Instagram post last month, Navarro wrote:

“My dad was supposed to be flying in from Nicaragua today to spend Christmas and my birthday with me. I haven’t seen him in 10 months. He was by my mom’s bedside day and night. They were married 60 years. Her death has devastated him.

“I desperately wanted to hug him and pamper him,” said The View co-host. ” I’m down to one parent and all I want is to smother him with love and attention. Now, he has COVID! Obviously, he can’t fly until he tests negative. I’m so grateful he’s vaxxed.”

Navarro shared Monday that her dad now is with her in Miami.

Meanwhile, co-host Sunny Hostin said she tested positive for COVID during the break. The family also acknowledged the one-year anniversary of the death of Hostin’s in-laws. The two died within days of each other. Hostin said she spent the holidays with her family via “FaceTime” as she isolated herself in another part of her home. Hostin’s mother also tested positive.

Meanwhile, The View co-host Sara Haines also dealt with COVID during the holiday break. Her husband, Max Shifrin, tested positive.

Behar said Goldberg could appear remotely on the show sometime this week. And, Behar said that the show is hoping to be back in studio by next week.
