‘The Voice’: Blake Shelton Rounds Out His Team with Rock Singer Tommy Edwards

by Amy Myers

Last night marked the end of blind auditions on The Voice, which means all four judges have teams jam-packed with talent. The last five contestants to enter the competition were some of the best performances we’ve seen this season so far, including Blake Shelton’s final team member, Tommy Edwards.

This contestant had us sailing across the sun with his raspy rendition of Train’s “Drops of Jupiter.” Edwards won over Shelton’s approval before he could even get to the first chorus, and fellow judge John Legend quickly followed. Of course, Shelton wasn’t happy that he had competition for the rockstar contestant. During the feedback portion, the two judges admired The Voice contestant’s vibrant style and his ability to “get lost in the music.”

Shelton even likened Edwards’ voice to that of The Black Crowes frontman Christopher Mark Robinson, which the contestant took as a huge compliment. Meanwhile, Legend noted that Edwards had just the right amount of power, range and electricity that he needs to be successful in the competition.

As we now know, Edwards ultimately decided to choose Team Blake, opening himself up for possible opportunities to sing country music in the near future.

‘The Voice’ Fans Say Tommy Edwards’ Voice Reminds Them of Famous Rockstar

Shelton’s excitement over his latest addition to his team didn’t end with Edwards’ performance. Following the energetic song, The Voice judge again explained why he liked the contestant’s style so much.

“Thank God for Tommy,” Shelton said in a confessional. “He’s got a cool voice that sounds like 90s rock to me. He’s the perfect guy to wrap up my Season 21 blind auditions, and Team Blake is full now. Thank you, Tommy.”

Fans of the country star were just as elated to see Edwards join Shelton’s team. The Voice viewers flocked to Twitter to share their thoughts on the contestant’s unique style and talent.

“He’s the one! Need someone that can rock and I’m guessing a little country. It’s been awhile this type of singer. We need another Chloe K,” one fan shared.

Meanwhile, others discussed who the contestant sounded like and which songs he should perform in the future.

“Sounds a little like Daughtry!!!” one fan observed.

“So looking forward to watching Tommy’s journey. Matter of fact would like to see him perform a song by Journey,” another suggested.

As the show continues into battle rounds, fans will keep a close eye on Edwards. Last year’s The Voice winner was Cam Anthony, another member of Team Blake. Hoping to keep up his winning streak, the country star will no doubt have the same faith in all of his 12 contestants this season, too.
