The super-popular reality talent competition “The Voice” is back for its 21st season, kicking off earlier this fall.
Country music icon Blake Shelton has served as a coach on “The Voice” for several years. His job on the television series, along with the other coaches, is to prepare his team for competition. He does a fine job of coaching up his team full of young and also talented singers.
During the most recent episode of “The Voice,” the country singer was overcome with emotion as he watched two of his pupils perform. The show is currently in the “knock out” phase of its latest season. Coach Shelton paired contestants Wendy Moten and Jonathan Mouton together to perform during the “knock out” session. What he witnessed nearly drove him to tears as both singers poured their hearts into their performances.
Mouton performed Johnny Nash’s hit song “I Can See Clearly” to near perfection, also drawing the approval of the audience. It was Moten, however, who really stole the show by performing Aretha Franklin’s “Ain’t No Way,” blowing away the coaches. Shelton was visibly moved by “The Voice” performances and conveyed his thoughts to the contestants.
“When I paired you with Wendy, part of it was, let’s see what this guy’s made of,” Shelton tells Mouton. “You stepped out here, and that was incredible.”
Shelton also had high marks for Moten after her stunning performance on “The Voice,” Monday evening.
“Can you please hold some meet-and-greet passes for Kelly and me for your tour?” Shelton says.
Fellow coach Ariana Grande also gave Moten heavy compliments, telling the young singer she is well on her way.
“I can’t even imagine the offers coming your way,” Grande says to “The Voice” contestant. “I’m just so happy for you, it’s about damn time.”
‘The Voice’ Brings Out the Talent For 21st Season
It has been a remarkable run for the reality competition show and there are no plans of slowing down anytime soon.
As is often the case with “The Voice,” a tough decision had to be made regarding which singer would leave. Shelton says the decision was incredibly tough as was clearly emotional when it became time to cut someone. Ultimately it was Wendy Moten who will move to the next round of the competition. The singer wiped a tear from his eye as the show said goodbye
“Jonathan, he blew me away,” he says. “The only problem is, Wendy blew the building away. I fully expect to see her in the finale.”
The other judges on “The Voice” had a little fun with Shelton’s emotional outburst, playfully teasing him.
“This is married Blake,” fellow coach John Legend joked as the show came to an end.
