Last night, “The Voice” concluded Blind Auditions for this season. Coach Kelly Clarkson was the last to round out her team, and she picked a singer with an incredible voice and an incredibly heartbreaking story.
Parker McKay from Nashville, Tennessee, stunned the coaches with a powerful performance of “Slow Hands” by Niall Horan. Before her performance, though, she shared how she tragically lost her mother to frontotemporal dementia the day before she flew out to audition for “The Voice.”
She still managed to crush it up on stage and inspire Clarkson to turn around for her final team member. Clarkson and McKay bonded over changing up music styles, and eventually, Clarkson ran up on stage to give McKay her “Team Kelly” jacket.
According to PopCulture, while the two hugged, McKay shared what a roller-coaster week it’s been. “I lost my mom to dementia this week. I’m just really thankful for the shot. I’m emotional,” McKay told her through tears. Clarkson responded, “Oh my God, I’m so sorry.”
“The Voice” then cut to Clarkson reflecting on McKay’s words in an interview. “At the Blinds, we don’t get the full story,” Clarkson said. “I was really glad I was moved to turn around because sometimes in life when it rains, it pours. And you just need a break in the storm. I’m really glad she’s on my team. I’m not going to cry.”
On Twitter, McKay shared the clip of her performance posted by the official “The Voice” Twitter account.
“GAHHHHH SO proud to be on #TeamKelly with @kellyclarkson !!!” McKay captioned the post. She also shared a longer message with her Instagram followers later that day.
