When Gwen Stefani joined “The Voice” in Season 7 in 2014 as a coach, the singer had no idea who co-coach Blake Shelton was. The now-married pair dished details of their time together on “The Voice” on their episode of the holiday themed radio show, “From Apple Music With Love”.
Stefani says on the episode, “I was on The Voice. I didn’t know Blake. I didn’t even know that he existed as a human, let alone, an artist. When I got on the show, I was like googling him and watching old reruns of The Voice to try to figure out why people like him so much.”
The singer went on to share that one of her nannies said he was good-looking, which intrigued Stefani. “..The more I watched the show, the more I could see ‘Wow, he’s funny, he’s tall.’ I started to get it,” she says.
As the two got to know each other and work together, Stefani started pondering if working with Shelton was possible. With Blake Shelton right beside her, Gwen says, “I had this fantasy of writing a song with [him] or doing something,” she explained. “At that time of my life, I was really searching for my next music, what I would do. I was really trying to be inspired. The fact that I got to be on one of your songs, that you asked me to be on a song, was my fantasy. Dreams come true, guys. Christmas miracles happen to people!”
Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton Connected On ‘The Voice’
The summer after Stefani’s first season on “The Voice”, she returned as a coach for Season 9. During that time, she was going through a divorce from ex-husband Gavin Rossdale. Simultaneously, Blake Shelton was in the midst of a divorce from ex-wife Miranda Lambert. Shelton and Stefani leaned on each other for support through their shared experiences, and their friendship eventually grew into more. Their first duet, “Go Ahead and Break My Heart” was released shortly after the two officially became a couple in late 2015. 6 years later, Stefani and Shelton married on July 3rd, 2021.
The pair just enjoyed their first Christmas together as a married couple. The singers recreated some of Gwen’s favorite traditions in their own home. Even after failing last year, the couple attempted to make their annual Italian timpano pasta dome. They documented the process and shared a charming video of it all via Instagram.
Ahead of the holiday, Stefani said, “I just want everyone to be happy and have that moment. It feels like there’s a lot of stress in the air, and I just want my kids to have just the greatest memories that we could ever make together this Christmas, and I know that we’ll be able to do that.”
