Kami Cotler is retired from acting, but she says she’d do another “Waltons” movie if asked. Probably, because the cast cared for each other like a real family.

Cotler told Cinephiled that the cast was really close, during and after “The Waltons”. She remains in contact with her co-stars even after all this time. “For us it’s normal,” she said.

“I don’t think I even realized how strange it was until we were doing one of the reunion movies when I was an adult and some of the makeup people said, ‘Wow, you guys really like each other?’ They had done reunion shows where that was definitely not the case!”

Cotler also spoke to VisionTV about the cast. She said, “They are a second family. We see each other for family events, like Bar Mitzvahs, or weddings, or funerals. Whenever we get together it’s like a family reunion.”

Like co-star Judy Norton, Cotler also has a YouTube channel where she shares behind-the-scenes tidbits from episodes of “The Waltons”. So far, she has made 8 videos about the first episode of “The Waltons”, “The Foundling.”

‘The Waltons’: Judy Norton Talks About How Close the Cast Was

In her behind-the-scenes video of “The Homecoming”, Judy Norton was asked by a fan if the cast ever hung out together outside of the show. She replied, “Sometimes, yeah, I mean not all the time because we spent so much time together filming that sometimes it was like, ‘Okay, that’s enough, I’d like to spend some time with my own family and personal friends away from it.’ But we did do publicity events together and sometimes we did just do things for fun together.”

She and Mary Elizabeth McDonough were the closest in age, and they spent more time together while not filming, according to Norton. “Mary and I visited each other different times when we were shooting different things or doing theatre in different cities. So, she and I probably did more of that earlier on than maybe I did with some of the other cast members.”

As for recent times, she said, “But since then, a number of us have vacationed together, or, certainly spent time together. And because of different events that we’ve done, sometimes we’ll come in earlier or stay later so that we can have time to just hang together because we enjoy each other’s company.”

As for Kami Cotler, she retired from acting and became a school teacher and principal. She built her own charter school from the ground up, but says she would go back to “The Waltons” if they asked her to. “I’d definitely do it,” she told Cinephiled, “it would be a lot of fun to work with everybody again,”
