A painting of late actress Betty White has been offered up for a charity auction in honor of the star’s legacy.

Two days after Betty White’s death on December 31st, an Oregon-based artist shared something pretty special. Kayla Carlile posted a time-lapse video of herself painting a portrait of the “Golden Girls” star. The clip was posted to Tik Tok and Youtube, where it was viewed millions of times.

Carlile told Fox Business about the painting. “I was a fan of Betty’s. I most remember seeing her in the movie, ‘The Proposal’ with Ryan Reynolds,” Carlile said. “But my favorite thing about her, she was so well-loved across generations [by] my grandparents, my parents, my friends … everyone always had something nice to say about her and I think it’s very rare that someone has that broad of an impact on the whole world.”

Betty White Had a Special Love For Animals

Betty White died of natural causes on the last day of 2021, just over two weeks shy of her 100th birthday. One of the things White was known for was her love of animals. In her 2011 book, “If You Ask Me (And Of Course You Won’t) Betty writes, “Animals don’t lie. Animals don’t criticize. If animals have moody days, they handle them better than humans do.”

Carlile placed her painting of White on eBay, specifically to auction for charity. Carlile’s choice of charity seems extremely appropriate given White’s love for animals. Carlile says all proceeds from the painting will go to Guide Dogs For the Blind (GDB). GDB is the largest guide dog school in all of North America, as well as an organization that Betty White supported while she was alive.

President and CEO of GDB, Christine Benninger, shared with Fox Business how “incredibly sad” the GDB team was to hear about Betty White’s passing. Benninger told Fox in an email, “She was an incredible supporter and advocate of our mission to empower lives by creating exceptional partnerships between people, dogs, and communities. Since her passing, we have seen an outpouring of support from fans of Ms. White, like Kayla, who want to honor her legacy and we couldn’t be more thankful. The monies raised through the auction of Kayla’s beautiful painting of Betty will help support our life-changing mission and continue Betty’s legacy at GDB.”

Bids For the Portrait Soar Over $50,000

The current highest bid on the painting is $50,100, with about four days left in the auction. You can check out the eBay listing here.

Carlile seems incredibly grateful for the attention the project is getting. Carlile wrote in an Instagram post caption on Tuesday,

“I never in my wildest dreams imagined this Tik Tok going so viral. I thought maybe I could make a couple of hundred dollars for charity and honor Betty’s memory. This is incredible, I’ve cried a few times in shock the last two days.”

Carlile has also painted portraits of other celebrities, including Post Malone and Michael Jackson.
