If you were peacefully watching the “Today” show this morning, you may have noticed a pretty abrupt jump to a commercial break.
The show was forced to go into a commercial break when a random streaker decided to sprint past where the show is filmed. That street corner often attracts people as they watch the live taping of the program, however, streakers aren’t exactly what the “Today” show wants on live TV.
‘Today’ Show Streaker
Hoda Kotb, Savannah Guthrie, and Craig Melvin were all chatting live on air right as it happened. The person can be seen briefly out of the Studio 1A window right on the streets of Midtown Manhattan.
It’s unclear just how far the streaker traveled the streets of Manhattan completely in the nude.
According to Page Six, the hosts tried their very best to carry on with the show and not let it majorly distract them. Melvin casually said, “Oh, there was a naked runner” before immediately moving onto his previous train of thought. He then said, “Brand new from Hoda Kotb, a new podcast…”
His attempt doesn’t quite work, however. Guthrie then interrupts him to say, “There he goes!”
Suddenly, the hosts are trying to converse with the naked runner. Guthrie yells, “Where are your clothes!” Kotb also quickly joins in to say, “Get your clothes on!” Melvin was visibly upset as he yelled after him, “What are you doing?”
As they turn back to the camera, all three look absolutely stunned. A commercial break then immediately starts. Luckily for the show, and viewers watching unsuspecting at home, the lower half of the streaker was concealed by the crowd control barriers right outside of the studio. The streaker has not yet been publicly identified.
New Hoda Kotb Podcast
Amidst the chaos of the streaker on this morning’s show, Hoda Kotb and her co-hosts were trying to discuss some recent exciting news.
The “Today” show host has announced that she is starting a podcast called “Making Space with Hoda Kotb.”
“I like to get life advice from people, and I like people who’ve lived incredible lives who are great life coaches. And that’s what this is. So I’ve been interviewing people, and I’m not kidding, I have a notepad next to me while they’re talking and giving life advice,” Kotb said about the podcast while standing at “Today” plaza alongside Carson Daly, Craig Melvin, Al Roker, and Savannah Guthrie.
Her hope for the show is that the experiences of other people will allow others to learn something new. She shared that she already has a couple of interesting guests to kick it all off.
The eight-episode series starts on September 20. A few guests announced so far are Pastor Michael Todd, Suleika Jaouad, Jon Batiste, and Anne Lamott, and Mitch Albom.
