Happy Birthday to The Today Show’s Jenna Bush Hager who received a special birthday surprise this week. U2 frontman Bono shocked the 40-year-old American news personality on their walk through Central Park with an unexpected performance from the Susan E. Wagner High School band.
As the two walked by the Tavern on the Green restaurant, Bono said, “Can we get a pint? Sorry, change of plans.” Hager caught on quickly to the distraction responding with, “Wait, what is happening here?”
“Some intentional music,” Bono responded. “Happy Birthday, babe,” he exclaimed. The birthday surprise came complete with music, ballons, and a legendary rockstar.
“Stop it!” Hager grinned. “Are you kidding me? You have got to be kidding me. Thank you! I’m freaking out.”
Hager took to Instagram to share how special the moment was for her. “I had a dream…. it was a beautiful day. Thanks for everyone who made this happen. Bono I [love] you,” she wrote.
Jenna Bush Hager’s Birthday Marks a Milestone
Hager spoke with co-host Hoda Kotb on her podcast Making Space in which she revealed this birthday marks a major milestone for her father, former U.S. President George W. Bush.
“He quit drinking the day after his 40th birthday,” she explained. At the time, Hager was only 5 years old.
She continued saying, “It’s interesting to me because a lot of his stories to us and our family sort of begin at 40. I think he had a new lease on life at 40, a really important revelation that he couldn’t drink. So that sits with me because it was a really important part of our family, that choice that he made.”
Jenna admits her father’s decision to abstain from alcohol made her contemplate whether she should follow suit. However, she said she has no plans to quit.
Hager’s parents also surprised her with a touching Happy Birthday message on The Today Show.
“40 years ago today, your dad and I were thrilled to welcome two baby girls to the world. You and Barbara have made us happy every day since. We’re so so proud of you, love you,” her mom, Laura Bush gushed.
“40 years is a… seems like an old age, but it turns out it’s not. You’re doing great, Laura, and I love you. We’re very proud of you and we wish you and your sweet sissy, Barbara, a Happy Birthday,” commented George W. Bush.
The sweet birthday message moved Jenna to tears. However, she ended the emotional moment with a joke stating, “I’m sure I made them happy every day except for the day I got arrested,” she quipped. “That day they weren’t so happy.”
Happy Birthday Jenna Bush Hager!
