Imagine taking a leisurely stroll along a lakeside and seeing Tom Cruise throw himself from a helicopter then land on your walking trail. That’s what happened to a family in England’s Lake District a few days ago.

Andras Katica was taking a walk with her family one afternoon. And like a scene from a Hollywood blockbuster, a helicopter flew overhead and dropped Tom Cruise at their feet.

“I certainly wasn’t expecting to bump into Tom Cruise during my hike,” Katica told The Sun. “But he was really friendly and offered to have his picture taken. He looked like he was having a great time but was also clearly involved in some serious work for the filming.”

Cruise is currently in Europe filming the seventh movie in his Mission: Impossible franchise. And apparently, he was out practicing for a scene—because he almost always does his own stunts.

“By the time he parachuted away there was a little crowd gathered but Tom didn’t show any sign of nerves,” Katica added “He obviously loves the thrill of being involved in his own stunts.”

The thrill-seeker is notorious for performing his own stunts. He’s been known to break bones and lose insurance companies over his death-defying risks. As he once told The Graham Norton Show, he enjoys the rush so much that he can’t give it up. And sometimes he has so much fun that he ruins takes by smiling.

“The first time of any stunt is nerve wracking but it also exhilarating,” he said. “I have been told a few times during shooting a stunt to stop smiling.”

Tom Cruise Lands Helicopter in Family’s Yard and Offers Them a Ride

Tom Cruise was also up to his awesome shenanigans last month when he randomly landed his helicopter in a family’s backyard and offered them a ride. Why can’t this stuff ever happen to us?

The Top Gun actor was trying to get to Birmingham, U.K., to film a scene for Mission: Impossible 7. And he needed to get there that day. But as he was nearing his destination, the pilot got word that the airport was shut down. So, Cruise decided they had to land in a field

The field he chose belongs to Allison Web of Warwickshire. As she was going about her business one day, her phone rang. When she picked up, a stranger asked if they could land a helicopter carrying a “VIP person” in her yard. She agreed and told BBC that she was shocked when Tom Cruise arrived at her home.

“I thought it would be kind of cool for the kids to see the helicopter land in the garden,” she recalled. “He basically arrived and got out and it was like, wow.”

Web told the news outlet that Cruise was friendly and very thankful for her hospitality. And as a way of showing his gratitude, he offered to take her family for a ride.

“Then he said if the kids would like they could go up in the helicopter,” she said. “It turned out to be an incredible day. It was surreal, I still now can’t believe it happened.”
