Tom Selleck and his wife Jillie Mack will be married for 35 years this summer. And their secret to love and longevity is far more “simple” than you might think.
While the Hollywood lifestyle is notorious for destroying romances, Selleck and Mack have weathered every marital storm with grace. But that’s because they’ve managed to stay mostly out of the limelight. And by doing that, their relationship has flourished.
“They still love spending time together,” a family friend told Closer. “They like the simple life.”
Selleck and Mack live that life on a ranch in Hidden Valley, California—far away from the glitz, glamour, and drama of Tinsel Town.
The two currently live on 65 acres that were once owned by the legendary singer Dean Martin. Selleck bought the home with the money he earned from the final episodes of Magnum P.I. And he did it to escape the stress of being a celebrity.
“He knew he needed to buy back his anonymity, to replenish the soul,” Jillie said.
Tom Selleck and Jillie Mack Live on a ‘Magical’ Ranch
In the past, Tom Selleck admitted that he gave up his spot on Magnum to start a family, and that same year, he and Jillie Mack welcomed their only child, Hannah, into the world. The ranch has offered him the “balance” he needed to be a strong husband and father.
At their home, the couple works together to grow avocados and other fruits. And Jillie also raises horses and several other pets.
The hobbies help the two stay connected. And the farm also gives them the opportunity to be “independent” and focus on their personal passions.
“There is a lot of yin and yang in us,” said Selleck. “Jillie has this sort of joie de vivre, this effervescent quality that just lights up a room. Apart from being my wife, she’s my friend.”
Jillie actually gave up a career as a professional dancer and actress in England after meeting Selleck backstage while she was performing in Cats. But according to her friends, it was a choice that she’s never regretted.
“Jillie loves her life!” the friend told Closer. “Her happiness is her animals. She has around five dogs, which she speaks to like they are humans, and the horses. And the ranch is just magical. They grow every fruit and vegetable imaginable. There are avocado trees, orchards, and a pond. Jillie and Tom have everything they need at the ranch.”
And aside from living their dream life on their California ranch, the Blue Bloods actor is also certain that he lends a certain pizazz to his relationship that helps keep the flame going.
“I get up before Jillie and put on the teakettle,” he shared. “So when she gets up, her tea water is hot. I think I’m pretty romantic.”
