‘Blue Bloods’: A Broadway Legend’s Return Has a Major Impact on Erin

A surprise guest makes her first appearance on “Blue Bloods” for the first time in over 10 years. Fans of musical theatre may know her.

“Blue Bloods” enjoys a fun guest star or cameo now and then. Sometimes, characters from earlier seasons are brought back to surprise viewers who have stayed loyal to the show. The show’s new episode is airing and features Broadway star Kelli O’Hara.

This is not O’Hara’s first appearance on the CBS drama. She is first seen in the first episode of Season 2 as Lisa Farragaut. Lisa is Erin Reagan’s friend, and she returns as her original role. With her most recent appearance dating back to September 2011, this is a surprise to both viewers and Reagan.

The new episode is entitled “Reality Check.” The description suggests that O’Hara’s return to “Blue Bloods” is to “inspire Erin to question the sacrifices she made in her own personal life to succeed with her career.”

Reagan is going through a lot right now. After thinking long and hard about running for Manhattan District Attorney, she decides not to campaign. There are many factors, including the fact that she would lose any sense of a personal life. Her long-lost friend Lisa, conveniently, is now a political campaign manager. While O’Hara’s role understands Reagan’s commitment to her work, she reminds her that there is more to life than her job. She also adds that in order to succeed in Reagan’s career, she needs to think about what she wants first.

“Career alone will not win you a major office these days,” Lisa Farragaut says.

About Kelli O’Hara

Kelli O’Hara is an actress, but also a famous singer. The Tony Award winner is most critically-acclaimed for her performance as Anna Leonowens in “The King and I.” She graces both Broadway and the opera world with her classic vocal tone and vibrato. Bren Brantley of “The New York Times” writes a rave review for its opening in 2015.

“As played by Ms. O’Hara, she’s a smart, scrappy, willful pragmatist who also happens to know that love is often as strange as it is undeniable,” Brantley writes. “That knowledge infuses every note Ms. O’Hara sings, and it is something wonderful indeed.”

In addition to theatre credits, O’Hara appears in film and television. These credits include “Sex and the City 2,” “13 Reasons Why” and “The Gilded Age.” She receives a Primetime Emmy Award for her role in the web series “The Accidental Wolf.” She loves inhabiting her roles.

“Playing characters allows me to do things I may not always do, while singing in concerts allows me to really find my own voice and grow,” O’Hara says.

Fans are happy to see Lisa’s return on “Blue Bloods.”
